Having this problem as well today after updating to 10.10.3 last week.

2012 Retina MacBook Pro + 27" Apple Thunderbolt display. First the USB port died-- lost my keyboard mouse. Connected them to the laptop instead. Not long after my Thunderbolt Display started flickering and blinking off and on pretty constantly-- no way to work on it. Rebooted and the symptoms haven't reappeared yet, but figured this was either a 10.10.3 issue or my display was going bad... and my money is on the software update having a problem.

Here's hoping they figure out what they broke and fix it soon. :\

I have similar problem... 10.10.2 was working fine with external monitor - did the upgrade to 10.10.3 and now my Mac Book pro (Retina) refuses to recognise my Dell monitor... have tried different display ports, reboots, forcing detect displays, nothing works, VERY FRUSTRATING! Had the same issue with last update of 10.9........ wish I had a Time Machine backup now to rollback.

It isn't just a Macbook issue. My Mac Pro tower lost all three screen outputs because of this update. I lost 2 of the 3 on update 10.9.2. This time after 3 minutes all three go dead and will not come back up without a hard crash and reboot. I thought my issue was a computer sleeping issue as well. I turned it off and the display sleep off, yet after 3 minutes the video card turns off anyway. It may not be just an issue with sleep Benoit254. Yosemite has been a nightmare for video drivers and it appears the trend continues. They released a supplimental update this morning addressing some video driver issues, but it did not help my issue at all.

I have a similar story: since the recent upgrade the computer appears to be working as expected, but no external display works. I teach and often use the computer to display on a screen via data projector. The last couple of times I tried this the projector received no signal. There used to be a menu feature in displays that allowed users to "wake up" the projector to let it know a computer was connected, but this has disappeared from recent versions of OS X.

Let's hope Apple releases a fix in the next few days. There are too many different monitors reported here for it to be individual hardware.

I meet the same problem with the connecting to my TV.

Until Mac OS X 10.10.2 it was possible to connect my iMac Mid 2007 to my TV Philipps UVSH. For that, I used the Mini-DVI to Video Adapter. It worked very good. The quality of the image was perfect.

But, since the last update to Mac OS X 10.10.3 the TV doesn't show anymore the screen of the Mac. The Mac itself doesn't react, as it done before when the screen changed a little bit.

I called the Apple Support. Their Answer: because I use a beta version, they aren't able to help.

I went to an Apple Store, they have advice to buy a new Mini-DVI to Video Adapter. But even the new adapter brings no change.

I have not seen in the informations about Mac OS X 10.10.4 that Apple have solve this problem.

Does someone have an advise to give me?

Sincerely yours.

(Sadly) Agree that this is also a MacPro issue. Installed the update on my previous generation MacPro and now the 27" Apple own cinema screen is blank and effectively dead - this was used as my primary screen. My second screen is a much older 23" Apple cinema screen and that still works. Very frustrating turn of affairs as the computer show that it is showing something because when I mirror screens I get the primary screen's details without a problem shown on my second. It's just not lighting up 😟 Have logged comment with Apple.

Peter, you're correct that this is not a matter of individual monitors or computers being the source of the problem. My conclusion is that Apple is dropping support for various video cards on a rolling basis with each OS release, as a way of reducing the amount of time they have to spend ensuring that older video cards work properly. Lengthy research, and even going to the trouble of editing the video preference files, produced no solution. Paying a visit to the local Genius Bar only served to confirm what I already knew, with no solution. For my issues, with a high res LG monitor that no longer worked after OS 10.7, my only solution was to purchase a new 27 inch iMac.

With other system issues, whether printer related, or such things as the OS only providing one way synchronization for iPhones, I am very disappointed in the current state of affairs with Apple products and software. I am really beginning to regret purchasing this iMac.

***, same here.

Just bought a brand new Mac Pro - $3800. Get home, plug in the 27" Asus Swift using a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable, everything is working fine. Then hit updates, on reboot now the signal drops to the monitor through the Mini DisplayPorts. Resorted to a 21" HDMI monitor for now....

Apple Tech Support told me to take in my monitor and Mac Pro. Great experience so far after spending almost $4,000 on Apple here.

Well, I was in a similar situation with my 30" Dell and my 27" 5K iMac , so after given up for a while I decided to try the cable that I had on my Windows PC connected to the Dell (Which incidentally was the original mini-display to display port cable that came with the monitor)...and voila....my 27" 5K iMac is now working PERFECTLY with my 30" Dell as a 2nd monitor. It turns on as it is supposed to after restarting/switching back from my windows PC/no more flickering/no more having to go into the Mirror settings and hitting the checkbox a few times.

Colors are perfect too, I used to have a less than perfect color rendering as a 2nd monitor, but now it is perfect! ....and it was all because of the cable.

I was using a cheap cable from Amazon from the iMac and the original dell cable on my windows PC!

Similar problem with MBPr (late 2013). I have two DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort monitors (Retina ASUS) hooked up and after the 10.10.3 update only one monitor works the other black (no signal).

10.10.3 seems to have really messed up dual monitor support for a lot of people.

Anybody else having problems with 2 DisplayPort monitors running off a MBP?
