iOS 8.3 just screwed up my keyboard

Does anyone else have keyboard issues after updating to the latest ios? My keyboard (all of them) now has the popup keys freezing and blocking the view of other keys and the suggest word. This is a major annoyance, is there anything I can do to fix this. I'm on an iphone 6. So there should be no hardware limitations.

I was having this too and the iCloud Drive fix above didn't work. I did realize though that it was related to using the filtering mode in accessibility settings to further dim my screen. If I disable this The keyboard is fine. Enable and keys stick like crazy. Might see if you have any accessibility view settings enabled.

I find there's general lag when using iOS 8.3 on iPhone 6. it's like the keys get stuck... which could normal when you have a physical keyboard. I guess iOS 8.3.1 will be forthcoming.

How would one get added to iOS (external beta) to help prevent this in the future? I was hoping that by being an external tester for OS X would automatically enrol me 😟

I did reset my device at least 3 times with no noticeable improvement. Interestingly, I left it on the charger all night and woke up this morning - all negative symptoms have disappeared. Not sure what it did in the background overnight, but it has resolved my issue. I did delete / reinstall any 3rd Party keyboard I had defined and tried both to hide and show the next word suggester, none of which seemed to help at the time. Good news is that it's resolved now.

Thanks,

Bill

I've encountered the same issue the only fix i've found is to restore the iPhone without restoring the backup. However restoring from an back up from a day ago elevate the issue for 3 hours then it came back. Issue is being caused by something in the IOS 8.3 update and settings/software on the phone. Hopefully Apple releases a new update soon to rectify the issue.

If you saw this immediately after updating, then the iPhone is probably busy finishing up the update and doing general post-reboot activities. If you install one of many free system monitoring apps available in the App Store, you will see that CPU usage is always very high for several minutes after a reboot. This would explain why Billjones270 no longer saw the issue after a night's sleep.

go to settings>iCloud>iCloud Drive and turn it off. Your keyboard should work and you can switch it back on and be good to go. If this helped follow me on Twitter and Instagram

don't know why this should work – but it does!!! (at least for the moment ; )

Thanks so much!

Rebooting the phone (iPhone 6) and deleting the 3rd party keyboard (Nintype) app and re-installing it fixed my issue (for the moment). Fingers crossed!

Well, I don't have any third-party-keyboards but had tried rebooting and resetting hard without any effect.

Try rob1236's answer. This worked for me!

Yes, keyboard trouble here as well.

I have Japanese keyboards installed (Apple's, not 3rd party) and after 8.3 upgrade they've lost functionality - or at minimum, they don't work like they used to and I'm not finding the solution. For example, among other things, I'm not seeing any diacritics in the "kana" keyboard and not getting transliteration in the romaji keyboard. Haven't tested the standard English keyboard yet but Japanese is pretty much useless until I find a workaround.

Thanks for the feedback. Your suggestion definitely helped.

Indeed, by turning off 'zoom' in 'settings > accessibility' the error went away (this was used in conjunction with other settings to add an extra layer mask to the screen which would increase and decrease the screen brightness by triple pressing the home button).

The only issue I am having now is the fact that my Swype keyboard is not loading.

I had this problem too. I tried a bunch of stuff (including waiting a couple of days to see if it would sort itself out, and a complete reset of the device and restore from backup).

The thing that fixed it for me was resetting my keyboard dictionary settings (Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Keyboard Dictionary).

Incidentally I also have zoom mode active, but didn't try turning it off.

I just fixed this same issue on my phone by going into Accessibility and turning off the "Follow Focus" option. I know I did not turn that on myself - must have been something related to the update. I do use the zoom to further dim my screen and the keyboard glitch was only happening when I had that on. Now I can use the zoom to dim and my keyboard works fine!!

A followup: I was able to stop the problem, thanks to later postings. Went into General>Accessibility, turned off zoom. Problem stopped, but colors were then inverted. Went back to the same area and found invert colors was active, killed that, all good. Apparently invert colors was canceled by zoom?

I have been having an occasional problem with accidentally activating Siri and then having to hit home button three times (not fast) to escape it, then having to use the fast three taps to get rid of inverted colors. I hope that one is gone, too!

This is still a bug in iOS 8.3. The problem I am seeing is that when my Apple bluetooth keyboard is connected the software keyboard will begin to pop up when is shouldn't after about 5-10 minutes. No matter what I do after that, including having all Accessibility off or toggling Cloud Drive, the software keyboard will ignore the fact that extenal keybaord is being used. Only forgetting the device in Bluetooth settings and reconnecting solves issue. Previous versions of iOS were flawless in this respect so it appears to be anew issue.

I tried all these suggestions and none worked. But I finally did fix the problem without a backup and restore. My Japanese and Korean keyboards worked again after I went to Settings > General > Language & Region and changed the iPhone Language to Japanese. After it reset the language and I typed some things, I set the language back to English. Now the Japanese and Korean keyboards work again like expected.
