based on this screen shot it appears your probably not using all the features of iCloud specifically iCloud drive and Photos app. also did you update with over the air or thru iTunes download and update? I ask this because I have two identical phones and the over the air update on my phone and iPad Air are acting the same way in that photos app showing 70% of battery usage and the iPhone 6 and ipad air updated this way burn thru a fully charged battery in no time. Phone max is 35 min if I am using it. I snapped this at 29% left.

After about 3 days of horrible battery life on iOS 8.3, battery life has improved significantly. My estimate it is draining about 10% faster than 8.2, but hard to say.

Things I did which did not seem to help:

* Shut down ALL apps, power off and on (a couple of times).

Things I did which MAY have helped (but not certain which, if any, was the trick):

* Started up a few apps that are my largest battery users (Maps, RunKeeper, GasBuddy), then exited them. This was based on the idea that perhaps some piece of them had been left spinning after upgrade.

* Reset (hold sleep + home).

* Turned off notifications for several app.s, Facebook in particular.

* Went into Settings -> iCloud -> account information, entered login/password again (chickened out on disconnecting from iCloud and reconnecting, but thought maybe re-confirming the account helped).

Total guesses on the real cause of the drain:

* Some sort of new storage management algorithm or music catalog in iOS 8.3 which took days to complete.

* Apps not running but with notifications configured were still running somewhat.

* The reset did more to fix stuff than the power off and on.

So... I'm not sure if that will help anybody at all, but since I had posted in this thread, I figured I should at least post back with the update that for my phone (5s), on iOS 8.3, battery life was awful a few days, but is OK now.

**** RESOLVED *** **** RESOLVED **** **** RESOLVED ****

After reading about all the battery drain issues with iphone, I started to notice a pattern, most happened with an update and those who had the problem performed the update over the air, And coincidently out of 3 devices updated, the 2 that were burning thru the battery were done over the air. The one updated that same day using iTunes has worked perfectly,

Performed these steps on a: iPhone 6 (AT&T) and my iPad Air (WIFI / 3G), both devices have been running on battery for 4 hours. iPhone 6 reports 96% battery still available, and iPad Air showing 98% available.

  1. Backup Device using iTunes
  2. Restore Device so all it contains is IOS 8.3, do not select at this time, restore from backup.
  3. After device has been restored; you should see the Hello greeting; follow the device prompts like your setting the device up; and when you see the option for restoring the device from a backup, select it.
  4. connect your device to iTunes, and then select the last backup you did during step#1 above.

I have been running on battery for 4 hours now, and currently at 96%

I hope this helps some of you...

Thanks, all, for these suggestions -- very helpful.

I spoke with Apple Support yesterday, and they did a quick battery life check over text messaging. It showed that battery life was OK, but usage was very high. They recommended deleting Facebook, the only 3rd party app I still had open, getting a full charge overnight, and then monitoring usage today (basically just carrying the phone in my pocket).

So, yesterday with cell data turned off to preserve battery, Phone/Messages/Safari/Mail/FB running: 100% to 69% by 11:30a, 4:20 standby and 2:32 usage.

Today with cell data on, Phone/Messages/Safari/Mail running: 100% to 86% by 12:20p, 4:50 standby and 0:58 usage - much better!

I'm still having trouble with iCloud backup hanging, but this is a good start ...

It's not good here on an iPhone 5s either. But it started to get really bad in 8.2, so maybe you're safe.

My wi-fi only iPad 8.2 has no issues and an old iPhone 4s for my job also on 8.2 has a nice battery life as well.

I have tried many things:

- check and kill open applications (most of the time the main consumer is home & lock screen!)

- disable background app refresh, selectively and for all apps (clearly some apps still use background services because they appear as consumers)

- disable motion tracking

- disable notifications

- disable location services, selectively and for all apps

- restore a backup, reset settings, reset content and reinstall and reconfigure apps

- disable iMessage and iCloud keychain

- went to an apple store and called support

and battery life won't last longer than 12h without even using the phone (just resting near the router).

I'm basically carrying a brick around. I'm turning airplane mode on and off all the time bacause it's the only way to save battery. So it seems to be related to cell network issues or iCloud. I can't figure any other thing, but for me the 8.2 created some issue that 8.3 has not solved.

I'm so desperate I'm considering using and old iPhone 4 I still have at home. But then, how can I get my money back from the 6 month old iPhone 5s?

Good luck.

Installed iOS 8.3 and immediately noticed standby time battery drain. Usage - Battery statistics wasn't highlighting precisely what was causing the poor battery life. Standby time and Usage time was identical which is the first red flag something was wrong.

Proceeded to troubleshoot problem:

Restored/reinstalled iOS 8.3 on my iPhone 5 and restored from iCloud backup, same problem, no change.

OK, obvious next step.

Restored and setup as new, FIXED battery drain. iPhone now holds charge in standby and while in use.

Currently I've reinstalled essential apps, mail and internet accounts.

My assumption is that some setting, Apple app, 3rd party app, location service, WIFI, Bluetooth, etc. is causing the drain.

There's no realistic way to target that specific problem and fixed it, since iOS 8.3 is so new.

Thought I'd pass on what fixed the problem for myself.

8.3 together with all pluses, has got a huge minus is a battery life.

Apple disappoints with such mistake. Users give lots of tips how to save battery, such as switching off brightens, Bluetooth and many other, which are actually important and in use and I do not understand, why someone should restrict himself from using options, which are quite useful.

Restrictions is not a way to solve battery life problem.

I Hope, that with next update this problem will be fixed.

Received my phone back from the store yesterday (apparently fixed). Battery was dead when I collected it so I couldn't check....not a good sign! Plugged it into itunes once it had enough charge to turn on and restored my data. I just let it run without using the phone and then plugged it into the wall charger when it was finished. It took 5 hours to reach full charge....this seems a bit long to me when I wasn't using it! Unplugged it once fully charged, left it turned on and went to bed, 5 hours later it's on 40%. I have turned it off now to see if the battery runs down when it's not even powered up (given I received it back flat I suspect it will!).
