Home Sharing: Share photos over local network without iCloud

HI Folks,

I have several large iPhoto libraries that I need to share over my local network. Apple's "solution", which is to pare down my photos or buy more iCloud storage is inadequate and laughable.

Anyone know of an app that has a 'home sharing' feature?

Thanks.

ahhhh .... like that it will work ... separate libraries operating on separate copies of same files.

Operating on same set of files might (I am not sure, but theoretically) create problem if files are moved or deleted. Imagine I change name of one file. Other library will see it as file been removed and new file with new name has been added, that copy of library will loose all tags associated with that file.

Anyway, I think the main idea is not independent libraries, but share library, aka if changes are made by one person, the other person on network should see it. Separate libraries wont do that, i.e. you start off with same copies of libraries. But then I add a tag or description on one photo that updates my copy of library. You will not see those changes with your copy of library.

hahaha ... forum are like that ... subjects morph all the time.

for me, I just wanted home network (no clouds) that shares photos, movies and music in seamless easy to use way even for computer illiterate members of families. You can pay system integrators to do it for ya, but that's way too expensive. Music and movies are easy (I plan to use Kodi for movies and music ... though you can use iTunes too ... didn't choose iTunes cause no support for FLAC files). Multi room audio is not difficult too with AirPlay and RogueAmoeba Airfoil.

only thing left was photo/home videos. As I wanted single library that multiple ppl can import to, tag, classify, edit, etc. Then that library can be used to simply enjoy viewing photos by family and their guests on iPad, smart TVs, etc. Tried to lobby Kodi team to implement this ... not happening. So needed something else ... seems Daminion is that something affordable else lol

"It is not possible to share a Photos library around multiple users except using iCloud Photo Library" This is the rub. No good reason you could not do this as readily with a local server (NAS or network drive) as off a remote server EXCEPT that it does not make Apple more ongoing revenue.

I gave up after many years on this one and just shoot JPEG (unless you are a pro there is no real need for RAW any longer) and all the pictures go up on Smugmug. Apple has lost my business as I now run Windows/Android and the rest of my family will as their hardware requires replacement.
