image capture no longer recognizes .jpg files

I have HV40 Canon and mini SD. I've been importing jpeg images for years. Now, all of a sudden, iPhoto (image capture) cannot read those file. This may have something to do with the latest updates which I installed last night. Now, even photos successfully imported just before the update, do not import. I get import error "Import error (-9937)" from Image Capture. One of these updates is screwing up my capture. OS X Yosemite, 10.10.3, MacBook Pro mid 2012. Thanks!

hello,

at first: my english is not the best. i have the same problems after a yosemite update. i couldn' find the problem. at first, i think it is a problem with my canon S60 or i have adjusted something at my mac mini. i read your post and i see that's a problem from yosemite.

please go to the canon homepage and search your cam. for canon s60 here:

http://www.canon-europe.com/support/consumer_products/products/cameras/digital_c ompact/powershot_s_series/powershot_s60.…

now install this:

CameraWindow DC 8.10.5a for Mac OS X

File version:

8.10.5a

Operating system(s):

OS X 10.10, OS X 10.9

Release date:

13 April 2015

now you can import your pics from your canon camera.

Certainly hope Apple and Canon are paying attention.

They are not - this strictly a user to user forum - no vendors here

And your problem is not a bug in either vendors software or firmware - it is a problem with you personal computer which probably can be solved if you start a new topic and provide context and details

I give the answer and you cut me off? Wow. Have a great weekend.

For everyone else - here is the answer - unless it's deleted for lack of technical response as someone from this monitoring forum just did that on another reply:

1) Go Canon's site for your country...type in your camera model and get the updated software from Canon.

Install; attach camera and all should work.

Certainly not very Apple like....much more like how PC's work.

Iphoto and Image Capture will not work in the new Mac OS with older Canon Cameras unless you install the updates directly from Canon.

Canada is: http://146.184.121.145/inetCA/en/serviceDetail/method/load/id/1/sid/10/mid/00022 00097/type/D/opt/1

2) Once you've downloaded the appropriate software from CANON (which is the Camera Window at minimum and Photostitch and Image Browser if you want them like before in the CD packs that came with the older cameras)...

3) Double click the downloaded dmg (disk image) files....it will not be obvious that anything has happened...but in Finder, you will see that it has loaded as a new device under devices....

4) From THERE, you can install the product (just double-click on the device canon has loaded like an external HD or additional device) and the rest is as you normally would do with windows...just follow install instructions.

5) Connect your camera and the CANON browser opens automatically and voila!

Problem solved.

This is definitely an Apple problem as Apple is the variable that changed. I was importing fine until 10.10. As I and kc_69 stated above, using Canon's Camera Window software does work for me, but I prefer using Image Capture since it is native and I can drag and drop. In any event, it'd be nice if Apple changed back whatever they did. My camera is not an old Canon model as well, so they shut it out really quickly.

I'm also having this problem - my camera is a powershot pro 1. I used to import directly into iphoto/aperture. Now I can not import. I tried to import a set of photos which I'd previously imported (the only variable being the versions of s/w on my mac) and could not import them. I tried to reformat my memory card. That did not help. My camera is fine - can import using windows without needing to install any canon s/w.

I have installed the canon software (CanonWindow 8.10.5a & Canon Image browser EX which is a bit flaky & never needed it previously), this will let me import to my mac (but not directly into iphoto/aperture).

I am running OS X 10.10.3

iphoto 9.6.1

aperture 3.6

I tried to import using the new photo app, but that failed too.

Having installed some canon s/w, I can now browse my camera, import on to my filesystem and drag into iphoto. Nowhere near as seamless as it used to be.
