lost photos after OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 update

I just completed the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 updates. I lost all photos not associated with iCloud. Any suggestions on how to restore/find them?

If you check in the ~/pictures folder (Select finder, menu bar select Go > Home. Open pictures folder) do you have an iPhoto Library file? If not there was the iPhoto library located in an alternate location? When found whats the size of your iPhoto library file?

Hello,

I just had the same problem too. Couldn't find my original iPhoto pictures after installing Yosemite. Here's what I did to solve the problem.

1. Go to your "Pictures" folder then click to open "APPLE" folder.

2. Inside APPLE folder, there should be a "iPhoto Library" icon. Click on it.

3. Once I clicked the "iPhoto Library" icon, the Photos app starting working on transferring original iPhoto pictures into Photos. You will see below image. Wait for Photos to prepare the library. This can take a while. However, once it's done, you will see all your original iPhoto pictures in your new Photos app. Hope this helps.

Updated to OS10.11.1. I am using an iMac that is 3 years old.

Went through the process of downloading the iPhoto Upgrader, and then upgraded my photo library. I now have iPhoto back in my dock.

But my older photo "Events" are now stored in iPhotos (2010 and before), and the rest of my photo "Albums" (2011 and afterwards) are stored in Photos.

How do I get them all in the same place/application?

PHOTOS doesn't seem to have the same editing tools that are available in iPhoto (or at least I can't find them), like "Effects" and "Adjust." If I want to use these tools with a photo now stored in PHOTOS, do I have to somehow import it into iPhoto and how do I do that?

Has Apple replaced iPhoto with PHOTOS, or are both program available on new computers?

I presume all new photos added to my computer will now appear in PHOTOS, is that correct?

How do the iPhoto and PHOTOS applications differ, and why would I use one over the other?

It feels like dealing with photos on my computer (and I have 20,000 of them stored) just got a lot more complicated.

Thanks for helping me figure out why I now have two photo programs, when to use which, and how to make them work together!

No but no. You have both apps, that tells you that Apple have not replaced iPhoto. What's happened is that iPhoto is no longer developed. They've made a new app with new ambitions and options - Photos. iPhoto is no longer for sale. It's not on new machines.

If you import them to it, only. (Just like iPhoto. It only sees images you import to it.)

You would choose to use photos as sooner or later a version of the OS will arrive that will not run iPhoto. H=They are broadly similar with a couple of differences: Photos has more and more powerful editing tools (Go back and check again 😉 ), plus it has the whole iCloud Library which allows you to manage and process your images onnany Apple device - Mac, iPhone iPad.

It's not. It's 95% the same. It's only complicated because you're thinking in terms of two apps and there's no need to. Pick one horse and ride it.
