Reverting to iPhoto after Photos migration

1.- If i trash photos library doesn't happened anything

2.-Photos library does not change anything on iphoto library

3.- I can still use aperture with iphoto library

I am also very unhappy with the Photo Application. It does feel like all the photos I worked so hard to categorize and sort into Events have now become like a messy shoe box.

I really want to be able to use iPhoto but am afraid that any photos I work/edit won't be converted should the iPhoto application go away in the future. I already paid the price literally in the past when I bought Aperture, only to find out later that this would not be a supported application.

Apple, please find a way to allow me to go back to iPhoto without there being a risk of losing photos, updates/edits, or information attached to each photo. I do know that I can still open the iPhoto App but the warning in the beginning stating that all future changes and additions won't be reflected in the Photos App scares me. What am I going to lose now?

Also, I never liked the way my iPad or iPhone organized my photos. It took the control I had over the organization and now I'm supposed to understand someone else's method.

Agreed, 27,000 photos later and I have no organization to rely on.

I was advised by a friend to use digital darkroom from Adobe.

My problem is that I do NOT need to edit pictures except for very basic crop/flip/rotate, change date/location and possibly red-eye, so I consider

that an overkill (this is also why I do not use Aperture).

I need only an efficient organiser/archiver (to HD) for my home collection of photo + very basic editing as above.

Presently I'm using iPhoto + "iPhoto Library manager" and I'm sort of happy about it.

Any suggestion of what would be the best software to take over from iPhoto ?? Would be nice if it had concept of separate libraries so that I do not need to wade through 60000+ picture every time.

I have uploaded all my photos to Flikr: with a free 1TB of storage i intend simply using Flikr from now on ...

Photos will do all that you want. As will Picasa from Google. If you don't want non-destructive processing check out an app like Graphic Converter which has a good photo browser but doesn't use a library as such.

Unfortunately with Events gone "Photos" is not good for me as all my libraries are tagged by Events. I suspect I will (eventually)

have to bite the bullet and convert the Events in Directories and that use something like Picasa. Then I will not be anymore dependent on app-specific formats. I tried Picasa already some time ago but I preferred at the time the interface of iPhoto.

(I use both GC and Photoshop when I need editing but that is not the point as that is a different type of work).

btw I found out an application called Lyn that works (more or less) as a simplified iPhoto without all the (useless) face recognition etc. Unfortunately it does not allow batch change of dates and of location...😢

I couldn't agree more. I hate it. I have lost my events system of organising & now have 000's of photo's in date order. Absolutely useless

How about using Keyword to tag all of your photos and use search as your "Events" alternative. For example, I was able to type "Nicole 2014 Canada Beach" and Photos would find the right photos for me.

relevance of certain sets of photo for certain applications....grrrrr... Thanks anyway

Just spoken to Senior Apple Support technician about the new Photo not working with Apple's iBook Author! Anyway he first thought that iPhoto could still be used in 10.10.3 but he drew a blank when he tried to find a way to do it.

Apple have frequently said that they don't monitor comments in their Forums. (Seems short-sighted to me as it would give them advance warning of issues experienced). So the best way to ask for old features to be re-introduced is to contact Apple directly - either via phone support, their feedback forms or even emails to T.Cook.

A few years ago Apple removed features from iMovie but reintroduced them in an update because of the number of requests from users. There are workarounds for some of the features removed but they are a poor substitute for the easy functionality of iPhoto. Events, Merge events, showing user entered file names can all be done in Photo - it just takes longer! Not an improvement in my view!

First, I did register my concerns at the Apple Sight - I hope others do also - it would be nice if they heard our frustrations with this change.

Terence - you seem to know what you are talking about and believe we can do everything we want in Photos. I go back to the original organization problem that most are upset about. Is there a way to take our photos from iPhoto and maintain the 'Event Title' line directly above each group of pictures either in place of or along with the automatic date and basically useless location provided?

Because my years of organization and number of photos is so large - that is the only way Photos will do what I need. I am not only looking to keep my old organization that involved over 100,000 pictures and 3,000 events - but I need to be able to carry the system forward.

If I am forced to go back and re-enter and re-organize into a new program, I want to know that it will be a program maintained by someone who is looking at something other than the social media folks and recognizes the need to keep part of the system so that photographers with large numbers of files that need to be organized - not just by a search - can trust that their years of organization will not be trashed.

I agree that it is nice to have editing tools right in the program and they are apparently there with Photos - but an ongoing, uninterrupted organization is key. Photos can be edited anywhere and brought into the organization.

Can you share an address or three at Apple to which we can send suggestions/complaints? I'll put it to good use. Thanks.

You might consider using Media Pro 1. It's a professional DAM (digital asset management) application that can keep your organization essentially the same as you have in iPhoto, write the metadata, keywords, descriptions, etc back to the original file and lots more. It uses Catalog Sets similar to Albums in iPhoto. It's possible to convert an iPhoto Library over to the MP1 system and keep the metadata and events intact.
