.dmg files switch to .exe files when i download and (obviously)won't open

I have tried to download several programs now that are listed as .dmg files and yet when they appear on my desktop they are for some reason useless .exe files.

Needless to say this is frustrating as these programs all downloaded on my old G3 and G4 with absolutely no problem...

Any help with this?...thank you!

Have you tried renaming them and replacing the .exe with a .dmg? I've had a couple of .bin files that were actually .dmg files didn't open when I doubled clicked with the .bin extension (error message said it wasn't a compressed file.) When I renamed it .dmg it mounted the disk image just fine.

Or try using a program called Stuffit expander which will translate the files to .dmg
