Hi there, a bit of a novice. I tried to drag and dropped. It went into the new album ok, but then it stayed in the old album too. I don't want a duplicate and I don't want to drag and drop, then delete it from the original.
Help!!
There are no duplicates - albums are not a place - they are simply a way of viewing photos - drag and drop does not delete the source - if you do not want it (and it is an album) then delete from the source - Note that if you delete form Photos or all photos they are gone every where

thanks so much Larry. I had a feeling that was the case. I think I get it - its almost just like a tagging system like for gmail, is that correct?
If I only want the photo shown up in one album, I will have to delete it from any other albums I have it in (without deleting the actual photo?
Basically I moved from a 2007 macbook that was stuck on OS10.6 Snow leopard, so I just got a new mac mini 🙂. Under the old iPhotos app, each photo was allocated to an event or an album. But I think what you are saying, that is no longer the case. I may have a photo in my photos that isn't allocated to an event OR an album (until I drag into one).
Thanks again for the response.
I did have another question - it seems like I have to delete the same photo a few times, this whole syncing to my iPad or iPhone is getting confusing. On my old macbook, the only way it would show on my computer was if I synced my iPhone to the macbook using a cable. Now its sharing a photo stream, I think I've deleted the photo on one device, but its still showing up on my other devices! Its very traumatic for someone who is organized like me!
Hi
I have a similar issue but your answers have not solved my issue.
I have converted over from aperture.
I now import my photos and then shift them out of the last import folder into a event called unsorted. From there we move the photos into the appropriate album/event, i.e. may 2015 holiday, or kids Birthday party.
The problem I have is that we could drag and drop in Aperture by holding down the option key while moving the photo and the photos would Move between events. In Photos the option key does not work and when I try to move the photo out of the unsorted album, it only places another copy (or link) in the destination album. I have to return to the unsorted album and delete it from there, which is painful. Is there an easier way to do this
I do understand that the event folders only contains links to the master photos file
Thanks
Fraser

Just drag the items from Last Import directly into the albums of your choice. The Last Import album only shows whatever was last imported, so the next time you import something, its contents will change to that.
WWhen you say 'left button' what do you mean? I have a wireless trackpad.
I Agree- I can no longer drag and drop photos from the main area where they were stored after download (library?) to an album. What gives? First of all- how do I get the album to show up?
read the answer - it tells

I had the same question. It looks like highlighting the photos you want to *MOVE* and clicking Edit/Cut in the source album, going to the destination album, and clicking Edit/Paste, achieves the move result.
Still trying to figure out how I will sort things into albums, when photos from a given event show up in Last Import, while others show up in Photo Stream, while others might show up multiple times in Moments.
Thanks for the explanation which now makes sense and just illustrates the strange Apple mindset that developed Photos. Not so user friendly in some ways.
