The iTunes opens flawlessly, the problem is just with my MacMini. I tried downloading iTunes from Apple and re-installing but no success. Tried Disk Utility (repairing permissions) and again... No... The icon did not even bounce...

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.

Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Alternatively, see:

Choose the version you have installed now:

OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X

OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X

OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X

OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X

if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go â–č Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES â–č All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View â–č Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try to launch iTunes. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

I'm having the exact same issue... I was also running the beta.

Tried 'Repair Disk Permissions' & 'Verify Disk' in addition to reinstalling the OS... The issue persists. I've downloaded the iTunes12.1.2.dmg and attempted to reinstall the application, which appears to install just fine but I still can't fire it up.

Here's my console log when filtering on iTunes:

Trying several times Repairing Disk Permissions, one after another in attempt to get no errors reported, it keeps repairing hundred lines basically like this:

ACL found but not expected on “Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/iTunes.help”... all related to iTunes...ACL found but not expected on "Applications/iTunes.app/.....

What can I do?

Thanks for helping me

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

Step 1

The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.

Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”

While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.

Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?

After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

Step 2

The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.

Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.

The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

Apr 11, 2015 5:47 AM in response to Linc Davis

Hi Linc,

I actually opened a support case with Apple on this and they had me go through the same steps, the last thing they left me with was performing a reinstallation which didn't resolve the issue

Step 1:

I attempted to do this last night (with slight variation) but iTunes still would not fire. Essentially I created a 'test' user account with administrator privs, logged in but no luck.

Step 2:

I have no peripherals connected, FileVault is not enabled. Logged in through safe mode, the application still wouldn't start. Restarted to get out of safe mode, logged in, still not opening.

Cheers,

Levi

hey mario,

so i had the same issue with you with os x 10.10.3 where itunes wasn't launching.

a senior advisor with apple on the phone helped me. after trying a few things that didn't work (reinstall itunes, reinstall yosemite, disk repairs, etc.), he suggested the following which resolved my issue.

step 1: delete itunes from the applications folder. but before i moved itunes to the trash, i went to itunes info (command + i) in the applications folder and changed the sharing and permissions settings. under all names, i changed the priveledge to "read & write". then i deleted itunes and deleted the shortcut from my dock.

step 2: reinstall itunes from the apple website. http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

and it opened up like a charm!

good luck! hope it helps!

Hey darbocity!

THANK YOU!! Very Much!

This solved my issue! I had tried all possibilities, including deleting iTunes, but I got a message saying that iTunes could not be deleted because it was part of the system... But I had not changed the permissions as you mentioned, so I changed to read & write and re-installed. Perfect!

Thanks again!
