Photos: Can't Drag & Drop to Browser

Well, that' pretty much says it. In the new Yosemite Photos I can drag & drop pictures inside the OS, but they won't drag and drop to a web browser (safari, chrome, or firefox). I do this pretty frequently (gmail, facebook messages, wordpress). Thought I would put this out there in the world, don't really expect anyone to have a fix 😟

Not sure there is a work around - just more hassle, effort and duplication to get your photos out of Photos!

Drag and Drop is such a basic and essential functionality, I can't quite figure out what kind of thinking Apple has had to embrace to remove this... we're talking about the creators of the World's most user-friendly computers!

I encourage everyone to let Apple know you want it back: https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

I agree this is so frustrating. we used to drag photo's from iPhoto direct into our Web based System. Now we have to drag onto desktop and then to web browser.

This problem also happens with Mail - we used to drag emails into our web system too (when viewing an email drag from the right of address fields). This also has to be dragged to desktop and then into safari.

For this reason - media browser does not solve the issue.

I too, found that I could not drag images directly between the Photos app and Wordpress...

Here are the steps that I did to fix this problem:

  1. Create a new folder on your Mac via Finder. (Name it whatever you want. I named my folder: dragged-photos, for this example.)
  2. Then, move this new folder to your Mac's Dock (drag it to the righthand side of the dock).
  3. You will need to copy the images you want to upload from the Photos app on your Mac to your new folder.
  4. Then, simply select the images from Photos and drag them to the new folder you created, which is now located in your Dock on the right side.
  5. Open the folder you created. You should see the images that you dragged there.
  6. Then go into your Wordpress website dashboard and go to your Add Media / Photos dashboard (or Gallery plugin) and then drag the images you want to upload from the folder you created and dragged your images to.
  7. Then upload your images to your Wordpress website.
  8. After uploading, I recommend that you clean out the new folder on your Mac (but keep the folder, for the next time you need to upload images) to keep things nice and clean.

To clean out the folder, simply select the images in the new folder, right-click after selecting them and click: Move to Trash.
