How can I view my photos in "Events" like in iPhoto? How can I create events? I have 55,000 photos and 1700 events so the only way I can possibly manage my photos is using events that are one slide in size.

I have 55,000 images organized into about 1700 events. The only reasonable way to view my library is using events in iPhoto where each event has one image That still leaves 1700 images to sort through but that is a lot easier than 55,000 images. In the side bar is a folder with "iPhoto Events" but those views still show all of the slides. How can I create events and view my photos as events as in iPhoto? Events are critical for large libraries and has been my primary way to sort images.

Thanks!

When you migrated to Photos, all your "Events" should have been put into a folder called "iPhotos Events" and are now put in "My Albums". But they are still in separate smaller (Event-centric) folders.

If iPhotos did not have multiple Events then Photos would group them as one large "iPhoto Event" as you alluded to.

You may want to re-migrate from iPhotos again, making sure that the Events were loaded as you wanted. To re-migrate you need to delete the Photos library (NOT iPhoto Library) and start all over again. If you deleted the iPhoto library, hopefully you backed it up prior to migration with TM or your preferred method.

Hope this helps

The "Events" folders are useless. They only show old events and do not allow creating new events. They also show all of the photos in the event instead of just the "title" photo. This is not the same or even close to "Events" on iPhoto ajd is not a valid substitute. The current Photos is lousy for organization of any kind. Geotagging out and reportedly so is using AppleTV to show photos unless you are using iCloud. Guess how much storage 55,000 photos takes? A lot more than 5GB...it would cost me $20/month and would put my photos at the mercy of Apple's iCloud service. Given the record of mobileme, imac, etc that is not a reassuring solution. This is a big dumbing down of photo manipulation on Macs. Fortunately, I still have iPhoto and will use it until it dies but looks like I need to find something else. Suggestions?

I have used Lightroom since its inception for all my DSLR images, but use iPhoto and one Photos for my iPhone images. I use my iPhone for "snapshots" and the DSLR (Nikon D700) for serious photography. Now days though the iSight camera is getting better. Point is Lightroom is a very powerful and easy origination and editing tool. Unfortunately Lightroom doesn't have the transported sharing ability that Photos has. Once you get it working properly

In iPhoto we could give a title to what is now MOMENTS, and then do a key word search based on that title. I have nearly 100K photos organized in iPhoto and don't wan to scroll through all the dates to find something. In iPhoto, I would type in the client name or subject that I gave to that day's photos (moments), and get right to the photo. Can I now give each Moment a name without creating a new folder or album for it? Currently, Moments are named by date only...

Folders are useful but they are not a substitute for Events, not even close. BTW...telling someone to "stop complaining" is rude and uncalled for. Many features that Apple has dropped in the past have come back when the user base "complained". Customer feedback is important to a company like Apple. In this case Photos could cause a lot of people to migrate to other programs if Apple does not listen to the user base. Many of us have used iPhoto for many years and spent many hours organizing and/or geotagging our photos and to see these features get dropped for some unknown reason is a big shock and a kick in the stomach. If the features were replaced with something better that would be fine but in this case they will not replaced but were dropped to make Photos sink to the lowest common device, iPhones. Fortunately, iPhoto still works and that is what I will use until Photos improves.

I agree with Tom as well. I have all my photos in iPhoto organized based on named "events". Now, I have lost all that work. Yes, I see them in the iPhoto Events Album, but that's not where I want them. I want to see my photos organized based on the event. Apple needs to fix this. And, I need to be able to sort either ascending or descending depending; this feature is also lost. Not good.

I agree! I want to sort ascending or descending. And most of all, I want to create events-- or at least title-- my new photos. I see that my past events are all there, but what happens with the photos I shoot tomorrow? Do I have to create an album each time I shoot? The beauty of iPhoto was that I could simply name the days' shooting and it was already tagged with the numeric date (and sorted by day) If I create an album each day, it won't be sorted by date, and if I leave it as is, I can't give a name (such as client or subject) to the work I did that day as a whole. I have to name each photo.

Please, Apple, listen to us!

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) . I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".

Haha! I should have paid attention and read between the lines! My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do! I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy. I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events) ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

That's not the point. We had Albums before, nothing new. Albums are the same as folders what's the point? I have events which consist of old pictures scanned in last year and they are displayed out of order. Their creation date is the date that they were scanned and not the date that they were taken. How do I change the creation date on thousands of photos?

I had more than one event on some days where I like to keep the pictures separate. I would make albums out of the pictures. I could reuse the same picture in different albums. Now I have to setup a calender to keep track of Photos. Some people work well with dates and others don't.

I have over 250G in pictures and Photos is almost useless in organizing them. If I wanted them organized by date I would used Finder. At least then I'd have a folder with a name on it. Not every photo comes from an iPhone.

One last thing iCloud is not affordable when you have limits on your data and completely useless as a means to sync all your devices.
