Share photos with Apple TV

Trying to share some photos from the new Photos OS X app through my Apple TV (3rd gen). With iPhotos, I used to just use the photo stream, but now Photo Stream is no longer available with Photos (at least I can't find it if it does exist).

I can select a "shared album", but I would like to create a shared album, just for the Apple TV and no one else. Currently to create a shared album, you need to share it with "someone" in contacts, or am I missing something fundemental?

Help would be appreciated

Photo stream is still available with Photos, if you wish to use it and you are already using iCloud photos, you won't see your photo stream album in the photos application but new photos will be added to the album which you can then see on the Apple TV (My Photo Stream from the Photos icon), you can turn on Photo stream in Photos from the menus (Photos > Preferences > iCloud)

You can create a shared album and don't have to actually share it with anyone. Just leave the invite box empty when you create the shared album.

Finally, you can also see all your photos on the Apple TV via home sharing. In iTunes (File > Home Sharing > Choose Photos) make sure you have opted to use Photos instead of iPhoto, you can see the photos on the Apple TV by navigating to the computers icon.

My photos on Apple TV are not showing up anywhere on the apple TV 3rd gen. In iTunes on my Imac if I go to home sharing on the file menu I see two menu choices:

Turn off Home Sharing

Choose photos to share with Apple Tv

If I choose the second I see Share Photos from "Photos" and a gray rectangular area in which I choose "All photos and Albums". A checkbox below asks for "include videos". I've checked it.

At the bottom of the dialogue box is "revert" and "apply". Both are graded out.

I was able to finally get photos shared to my Apple TV (3rd gen) by creating a shared album and leaving the invite box open. All I did was name the album and then click Create. Photos then creates a little cloud called "Activity" and a folder called "Photos" in the sidebar under "Shared" that shows the photos you have added.

Now the odd thing is that I added about 50 photos to that album....and now it's up to 272 photos! I have not added more, it's growing on it's own!?! Not sure what it's doing really, but it's getting bigger as I type! It's now over 300! It's....IT'S ALIVE!!!! 👿

But I still don't see Photos in iTunes to be shared via Home Sharing. Am I doing something wrong?

Create a shared album

  1. Select the photos and video clips you want to share.
  2. Click the Share button User uploaded file in the toolbar and choose iCloud Photo Sharing, then click New Shared Album.
  3. Type a name for the shared album, then type the email addresses of the people you want to share the album with.User uploaded file

Not really sure why Apple changed this, I personally don't want my photos on the cloud. This seems like a huge step backwards to me.

I have just finished my first import from iPhone (IOS 8.3) to the new "Photos" app for OSX Yosemite (version 10.10.3 (14D136)). I cannot see any of those photos from Apple TV (3rd Gen). I can see all the photos imported to my iMac using previous versions of iPhoto. I have made an album in "Photos" out of all the new photos imported (doing that is a crock - but that's another story) and yet I still cannot see those photos from the Apple TV.

With regard to where you said:

"Finally, you can also see all your photos on the Apple TV via home sharing. In iTunes (File > Home Sharing > Choose Photos) make sure you have opted to use Photos instead of iPhoto, you can see the photos on the Apple TV by navigating to the computers icon.

In iTunes when I select "File > Home Sharing > Choose Photos to Share with Apple TV", all I see is a spinning clock symbol. I never see any choices for whicxh photos to share. Is there some other setting that is required to see photos from the Photos library on my Apple TV?
