So the solution to fixing Bluetooth connectivity is not an easy one. For me the issue was predominantly with connecting to my car's bluetooth hands free on my Mazda CX-9.

First go to you car setup and be sure to remove all devices that were paired with your automobile. With your phone in the car (as well as many other vehicles, I would think) on the Mazda press the phone button on the steering wheel, Listen to the prompts.

When the screen shows that it is listening speak loudly "Setup"
When the "Setup" menu begins listening Say loudly "Pairing Options"

When Pairing Options menu is listening say loudly "Delete a Phone"

When Delete a Phone Option is listening speak loudly "Delete all phones"

Once you receive the confirmation that there are no devices connected - turn the car off and open the hood. Disconnect the battery's Negative and Positive terminals and let sit - be sure the cables do not rest on the terminals.
Take your phone inside and connect to your computer. Connect the phone and back it up - not just to the cloud, make sure you have a backup on your computer in Itunes.

Disconnect the phone once the backup is complete. Go to the settings on the phone. Under General go to the bottom and touch Reset on the Reset screen touch the Erase all settings option and confirm "yes" this may take a few minutes.
Once the phone relaunches it will begin as if you bought a new phone - follow all of the setup features as you normally would. Important do not restore from the back up - If you did not get the opportunity to name the phone in the set up be sure to do so once the phone is up and running again. Go to Settings > About > Name > and enter a phone name.

Go to your car and reconnect the battery terminals. With your phone in the car and blue tooth on try setting up the phone to connect to your vehicle's hands free bluetooth.
If you successfully paired the vehicle and the phone then go back to itunes and restore your backup and configure any other settings.

If you were still unsuccessful pairing your device but can still pair headphones and external speakers you are not alone there is a many complaints about this issue with most vehicle's hands free bluetooth and the iPhone that has yet to be resolved.

Hi Christiane! I called Apple Support directly with a resolution! I have the Backbeats headset and changed phones recently and discovered my headphones would not pair (again with my new phone) . This is because headsets are meant to pair technically once to decrease continued pairing with other phones in the area etc. First, turn your device off. Second, hold your "on" button on for about 5 to 10 seconds. Mine paired immediately. Hope this helps!

Kindest Regards,

I have never had any problem with my IPhone 6 plus and my Bluetooth ear bud and then overnight it will not recognize any blue tooth device. I have a blue tooth speaker and 2 blue tooth ear buds and it will not pair with any of them. This just happened over night for no reason I can see. I have tried everything, including "forget this device" which now it will not pair or recognize any of the devices. What is the deal???????? Oh, yes, I have also rebooted the phone twice

Regarding Lawrence Finch comment about number of users affected by Bluetooth pairing issues, it may not be 700 million users, but it is a substantial number. And one of them is yours truly. I had a iPhone 5 pairing just fine w/ my Logitech 800 headset until I "upgraded" to the iPhone 6s with IOS 9.1. now the 6s doesn't even see my headset. Tried all the std troubleshooting and no results. It's well known fact that so-called software "upgrades" in the OS create problems, as well as solve them. Anyone denying that is in a severe case of denial.

Hi JMKSI, (sorry, I don't know how to post directly to you...)

I appreciate your post. I'm a similar legacy user, and only come to the boards in desperation. I may have found a fix and hope this solution works for you. This is the first time I've posted, and I'd appreciate if you'd try this solution if you still have the speaker. I have an Altec Boom Jacket 2 bought at Best Buy. I tried everything to pair to no avail. The included instructions were not helpful and I found a different pdf online with info to disconnect any device by holding down the + and - volume keys (with device on) for 4 seconds. It actually took about 15 seconds then something changed (disconnected I guess), which must have reset the internal pairing setup on the device. Voila! Suddenly "Boom Jacket 2" appeared under bluetooth MY DEVICES in my iphone 6 settings. So, I had already downloaded the Altec Connect app, which appeared to not be working because I could only see the header graphic and a white screen (really? c'mon people). I dragged my finger down on the white screen and a spinning wheel appeared. BAM! "boom jacket 2" appeared in the app with a right arrow. Now all controls are showing (Status, TWS, EQ, Remote). However, the music still only played on the iphone 6. I clicked everything a few times. Nada. Returning back to Settings on the iphone, there are now two, yes 2, Bluetooth speakers listed (okay, whatever). I toggled back and forth between the Altec app and choosing one and then the other of the two listed Boom Jacket 2s listed in MY DEVICES under bluetooth in iphone settings. Eureka. My music is playing, loud and beautifully clear. Don't ask me which bluetooth setup is correct, one device is listed as "Boom Jacket 2" and the other is listed as "boom jacket 2" (yes, only difference is capitalization). It may require that you connect both through the Altec app and also through the iphone settings. Or it may need only one, but I'm too far in to troubleshoot why there are 2 listed. I may have just gotten lucky. I suspect there is an obvious explanation. I leave that understanding to those more techy than me. Cheers, CWC

Here's a fix that DOES NOT REQUIRE ERASING prior setups in iPhone settings. I have an Altec Boom Jacket 2 bought at Best Buy. To disconnect any Altec device, hold down the + and - volume keys (with device on) for 4 seconds. It actually took about 15 seconds then something changed (disconnected I guess), which must have reset the internal pairing setup on the device. Voila! This will probably work with any bluetooth: try to erase the prior setups on the device BEFORE erasing your iphone settings. Good luck.
