Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

I am absolutely FLABBERGASTED!!

I had iPhoto 9.6 on my computer. I wish to CONTINUE to use it. An Apple update just installed their new Photos and installed a "no-go" sign on my previously perfectly working iPhoto 9.6 and all previous versions.

WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING.

I am NOT interested in having ONLY Photos - I don't mind it being there to try it out, but to UNILATERALLY REMOVE iPhoto is UNACCEPTABLE.

Apple please re-instate it forthwith.

Oh get over yourself and use the search function.

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

This isn't a solution: it's a kludge.

You're right. The originator of it intended it for a way to get into the library to export the photos out for use with a new Photos library because they couldn't get iPhoto 9.6.1 to download. Not for regular use.

Actually the iPhoto 9.6.1 app can be downloaded from the App Store according to numerous posts by users who were successful. It turns out that all previous versions of the iPhoto.app must be deleted from the hard drive before going to the App Store and downloading from the Purchases section.

Thanks a lot !

The same issue, the same solution...

Hope iphoto will continue to function until i have the time to reorganize my 190 Go Iphoto library!

(it's on a NAS and, actually, it works quite bad, and Photos failed with the migration. It seems that the space was too small (280 go required for the migration).

If i us Photos without copying the files into its library, will my pictures appear in My Photo Stream?

What about this Photo Stream, will it be imported automatically and where?

It's, now, not the object of the post but if someone can answer too, thanks.

PS : french, i choose perhaps the bad words in this post...

You cannot have an iPhoto Library on a NAS, not a Photos one. In needs to be on a disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) And directly connected to the Mac, not a networked location. You're trying to run a Mac library from what is essentially a linux computer...

Thank you for helping me!

I was told by a Apple advisor to move my Iphoto library a nas (synology) ; so, i did it and it worked quite fine (just a bit slower than on a DDE Mac Os formated, i think).

But your answer makes me realize that the issue with the migration to Photos is probably there, thanks (I'm trying to move the library on a DDE, but FAT 32 formatted - otherwise my nas can't write on it -, hope this will function)

What do you think about "my phtostream", if if import my photo with the option "copying files" deactivated ?

I have deleted all versions of iPhoto from my hard drive and I still can't download it from the App store. It says update only which does nothing.

If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:

1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:

  • open the Terminal application.

  • copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:

defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true

followed by Enter.

  • launch App Store, login.

2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:

User uploaded file

3 - try again.

I am absolutely FLABBERGASTED!!
