If it aren't broken, don't fix it.

Do you need anything in 8.x? A few people have had problems with WIfI, vga cables, and poor performance. Read though these discussions.

Absolutely not. Take it from someone who held out for months not updating to iOS 8 and made the dumb move of loading 8.3 after reading a favorable review - DON'T DO IT!! Everything runs slower - apps, installations, web browsing, screen scrolling - you name it. Don't make the same mistake I did. The only thing you give up is a few apps that require iOS 8. If there was any way do go back to 7.1.2, I'd do it in a minute.

Do not do it! I just recently upgraded. My ipad 2 is super slow. All the efforts to speed it up/optimize didn’t help much. iPad 2 doesn’t have enough memory and cpu is not powerful enough to handle ios 8. Apple made bad call releasing it (or the intention was to brick old hardware so people go to stores to buy newer hardware). To make matters worse iOS 8.3 is very unstable – my ipad kept crushing very frequently – something I never saw before. Thank god I was able to revert to 8.2. I spent countless hours trying to downgrade to 7.1.2 only to learn that it’s impossible. I even went to Apple store to ask for help with downgrading but they just said what I already knew – it was impossible. Just like mdiamond58 said if I could downgrade to 7.1.2 I would do it in a heartbeat. Thank you Apple for changing my iPad into paper weight.

I think you should stay on iOS 7 as your device is too weak in terms of hardware to use the whole potential of iOS 8. iOS 8 is fine, but you will probably feel the slowdown of your iPad.

iOS 7 is still supported by Apple, if it works fine, than continue using it.

Another possible way-out is to purchase the iPad Air 🙂

iOS 8.3, is more than your standard bug fixer. The update comes with a massive change log that features the over 300 new emojis, a look new for the emoji keyboard, some nice changes to the Message app, and an array of bug fixes. iOS 8 problems have been a problem since launch and Apple’s been doing its best to tackle the most glaring issues.

But we should note that mileage is going to vary from device to device, person to person. We probably don’t have the same apps installed and there’s a good chance that we stream more movies, use more LTE, and play more games than you do.

The final decision is going to rest in your hands. An update to iOS 8.3 isn’t required.

I Finally upgraded two iPad 2s (7.1) to ios 8.3++ on June 19th 2015. Both iPad2s still work, but not as well as they did. We gained a load of rather infantile smilies or what ever they are called, which neither of us will ever use. The keyboard is otherwise quite clever. Both iPad 2s have lost a lot of stability, battery consumption is markedly worse and it's clear that 8.3 needs more available memory than 7.1. Most of my screen icons are now generic, which is a fairly basic fault, I'm not very impressed really. All in all I should not have installed 8.3, those that advised against it were correct.
