My photos won't import into Word for Mac after OS X upgrade

After upgrading to the new OS X Yosemite does anyone know how to import photos into Word or Excel for Mac? That library is now grayed out for me and I am in mid-project on Word. I used to be able to copy and paste right into my document, now it seems I must exclusively work within the Photos program.

I have had the same issue as all of you. Apple upgraded their photo app from iPhoto to Photos. I have downloaded the latest version of Word, I have tried to copy all of my photos to iCloud. None of these solutions work. I have contacted Apple and the only solution they have at present is to drag photos to desktop first, and then drag them back in to the document. Ugggggggg.

Similar issue here (using OS X 10.10.5, and Office 2011). Suddenly, "Photo Booth" is the only choice when trying to insert a photo into Outlook or Word. The Photos library, which up until recently worked as well, is no longer visible within those dialog boxes. Interestingly, this thread Can not insert photos to Word or Outlook after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.3, suggestions? got me looking in another direction: My console log shows a very similar error as they reported in that thread, regarding "The bundle “iLMBPhotosPlugin” couldn’t be loaded because it doesn’t contain a version for the current architecture." So I've been snooping around trying to uncover what might have changed (with a recent OS X or MSFT Office update, perhaps?) but no results yet.

I can verify that the Photo Browser of my Word 2011 (v.14.5.4) cannot see the Photos Library. Never had been able to, and I didn't really bother, because it was my understanding that Word users would have to wait till Word 2016 that is almost to be launched.

Any way, I have always preferred editing the pictures I needed, exporting them in the desired size (much smaller than the version inside the iPhoto or Photos Library) to a desktop folder, and inserting them in Word through Insert>Photo>Picture from file...

Just discovered this very aggravating glitch while composing my annual Christmas letter in which I like to insert a few photos. Will try the drop on to desktop workaround (not a satisfactory solution however!) Otherwise, I shall be emailing or Dropboxing the few pics to myself and doing it all on my WINDOWS laptop. What a faddle and a waste of time! Merry Christmas everyone! (Or Bah Humbug!)

Just discovered this issue today. Before this, I was able to insert RGB JPEG files without a problem. Now when I go to insert a photo, the file name is greyed out. Here's what worked for me without saving images to iPhoto: In Photoshop, I resaved the files to TIFF with LZW image compression and IBM PC byte order. Now I can see and insert the photos. Hope this helps!

If your files are outside of the Photos Library (and they must be as you are mentioning resaving in PS to tiff), you will be able to 'see' and insert them into Word through Insert>Picture>From file...

A question: I have not yet upgraded to MSOffice 2016, and am still not sure that I will. But has anyone upgraded and is now able to insert pictures that are in Photos' Library?

It would be good to know what versions of the (system and application) software you are running.

As long as I have not upgraded my version of Word (14.6.6), Photos (1.5) is not revealed when I click the 'Insert Picture' icon in Word. Older programs (that existed at the time that this Word version was launched), such as Aperture 3.6, iPhoto (9.6.1 still running fine under El Capitan 10.11.6) and Photo Booth, are detected as shown in my earlier illustration above (post of 28th August 2015).
But, as also said somewhere above, I will rarely insert pictures directly from the application that contains them. I will first process and export, and only then insert into Word.
