GPS data not available to apps after iOS 8.3 update

I'm using a Wi-Fi only iPad with remote GPS connected via bluetooth (Bad Elf GPS Pro). Following update to 8.3, the GPS position data from the Bad Elf receiver is not available to other apps on the iPad that require it (in particular, Seattle Avionics FlyQ efb). Bad Elf bluetooth connection is good, and the GPS position data is displayed on the iPad using the Bad Elf accessory app, but it appears to not be available to the FlyQ app. Spent hours with tech support and other paths trying to fix this problem, including reloading iOS 8.3 update and applications, and even bought a new Bad Elf GPS receiver. I think this is a fairly common hardware/software combination (Wi-Fi only iPad, Bad Elf GPS, FlyQ app) for private aircraft pilots, so would expect others to be seeing the same problem (unless they were smarter than I was, and delayed updating their OS). Have others experienced this problem or found a solution? Quite frustrating, as navigation is the primary use for my iPad.

Actually, it's a bug on all bluetooth GPS devices since iOS 8.3 !

I personally use Garmin Glo and Dual Electronics 150 & 160 and the trouble remains the same.

Bad Elf blog suggest that Apple is aware of the problem and will correct it very soon.

I will believe it when i'll see it...

I was unable to update my Garmin GLO software because my PC refused to "see" it. But then somebody on this forum suggested that I try a very short cable. Bought one on Amazon and amazingly it worked! And having updated my GLO software, my iPad is now receiving GPS position data again even though Garmin said that a software update wouldn't help. Haven't tried it in the air yet, but it's looking much more hopeful than before.

After posting my "8.3" problem a few days ago on this thread, my iPad 4th gen wifi iOS8.3 is now working with my Garmin GLO. Upgraded the GLO firmware to v2.7, reset and rebooted the iPad. Also, tested it with our iPad Mini 2 wifi iOS8.2.and that also worked before and after the Garmin GLO firmware update. Tested using Co-Pilot Premium, Apple, and Google maps. All is well again!

Hallc, Dual data could be getting through via Bluetooth or the internal GPS supplying signal. Who knows?

You can sometimes tell because the internal GPS will fire off Cell towers quickly but not very accurate whereas the Dual may take a little time to get a fix but is very accurate. If you turn the Dual on first and give it time to get the GPS/GLONASS fix then activate the Nav App, you might get a better idea whether the data is coming from the Dual or the iPad.

In any case, you still have a flyable GPS location. 😎

I can't entirely blame Apple for this. Bad Elf and Dual, if they were actually doing their jobs, would have been verifying along the way that updates wouldn't break their products' functionality. Especially for something as important as a GPS receiver... Where was Bad Elf and Dual when the betas for 8.3 were coming out? Why did they have to rely on CUSTOMER REPORTS to realize their mainstay products were broken long after 8.3 was made public? It's truly wonderful when you get out on the water, and see Navionics failing to get a fix.

Trying to restore my iPod Touch G5 back to a 8.2. I went to the iDownloadBlog.com site and followed the instructions to the letter. I ran into a problem after downloading the iOS 8.2 IPSW file, when I did the Check for Updates, iTunes could not find the extracted file. I did notice on the web site the message, "This ISPW is not signed which means that you cannot restore it in iTunes". Does this mean I a stuck until Apple releases a fix?

I updated my garmin glo last night to the current version, 2.70 I guess it was, used it in the car this morning on the way to work. Worked great. Tracked speed, heading, and chart rotated properly. Using iPad wi-if only, garmin pilot, with a garmin glo. I had the same issue before as everyone else it see,s with the iPad not connecting to the GPS receiver. Glad I didn't roll my iPad back to 8.2.......
