Hello! I've had a similar issue, and after reading these posts agree it's 'got to be a software issue. Came home from vacation where camera worked fine. Updated to 8.4 , then my rear camera began to have a WHITE bar on the side of the screen of varying sizes. Then it either freezes or takes this messed up pic. The camera sometimes works in other app store, but not all the time. Front camera not effected. I had previously changed my own battery (lovely iPhone 5 w/crap battary twice, second time 3 weeks past apple care!!!) so geniuses wouldn't touch it. Procrastinated then FINALLY went to third party place and the dang camera worked fine for the 5 min I was in there. They were of NO help anyway, suggested I check the Internet. I left and was still in the parking lot and the white bar came back, but now not all the time!! So here I am, APPLE FIX THIS!!!

This is insane. I've been following different threads about this topic since Jan/Feb when this first started for me. Went to the apple store a couple months ago, told me there was nothing they could do. I can't believe Apple won't acknowledge this issue. Rear camera doesn't work but selfie camera will still open. I paid for the camera, I want to USE THE CAMERA.

Same probs facing here for camera after updated IOS 8.3 for iphone 5. Can any one advice how to relsolve this camera issue .

I discovered my issue was hardware related. I opened my phone and the camera cable had become disconnected from dropping it. reconnected it and i am back in business.

I have tried everything, and the only thing that worked was pressing the right front top corner. But that worked for just a few days, and then, all black again. I have been waiting for a "miracle" for two weeks, but no luck! So today, finally, I got my rear camera replaced, now it's working perfectly again, I'm glad I did this, because It costed only 20$, and I have a perfect camera again after so long. 🙂

Have this problem with an iPhone 5C with iOS 8.4 and done exactly what you said and it worked! It must be a software issue. The phone is out of warranty but I'm taking it back to Apple as this isn't acceptable.

Sorry to hijack you're post but I have ios8.4 iPhone 6 that the camera is just black and not working! I REALLY hope this never happens with the alarm for work ETC.... What's the fix as there's no later update ?

If its an iPhone 6 shouldn't it still be under the one year warranty? Just book it in for a repair.

Just adding in my story to this ongoing saga. Apple has refused to address this obvious defect in their IOS where it disables (breaks?) the rear camera. What an arrogant company to ignore and not address when a release breaks their product. Tired of dealing with Apples arrogance and lack of customer service. I am just going to replace this crapple with an Android phone.

This may have already been posted so apologies if it has a but it worked for me. It may not be the solution for everybody.

I was having similar issues to everyone else and thought it was a software issue but mine has worked since trying this.
