iPhone 4s Randomly Rebooting Post 8.3 Update

The onset of the problem:

Updated to iOS 8.3 over the air through wifi download on a full battery of 96%. Started it before I went to work. Forgot about it. Got to work 40 minutes later, iPhone at Apple logo. Didn't think much about it. Put it next to the computer, did something else. Noticed it in a constant reboot cycle because it eventually drained the battery and died.

Attempted to halt the reboot process by pressing home and power buttons simultaneously after it had enough power to boot again. This did nothing to correct the reboot cycle.

Attempted to get in to DFU mode. Was successful. iTunes was able to recognize it and aware that an update was required, or possible full reset. Attempted to complete the update through iTunes. The updated appeared to be successful, yet entered in to the same reboot loop as before.

Again I attempted to halt the reboot process by pressing home and power buttons simultaneously. This did seem successful and actually loaded the lock screen after which it rebooted again. It loaded the lock screen again and I was able to unlock it. I got this error: your selected cellular network is no longer available. You can choose a different network in settings.

I connected to wifi and the device rebooted again. Got back to lock screen, home screen, and eventually after what seemed a lot of toggling between edge, GSM, 3G, and nothing, it eventually locked on to my carrier. Back in business (I thought).

Tried to get iTunes to connect, couldn't connect. When it did start to connect, everything was grayed out. Eventually after several more reboots it finally connected, and I was able to get a backup off of it. Took a few interrupted sessions, but I did get one.

Now it appears to reboot randomly. When I plug it in to the charger. When I plug it in to the computer. When its been plugged in to the computer, already rebooted, and reboots again for good measure. Same when on the charger. After it has been on a while it will just reboot when I haven't touched it. Sometimes it goes through a couple cycles, but eventually comes back. Just recently it locked up when I was on speakerphone and tried to use the keypad. After pressing the show keypad button, it was half highlighted/half not, the UI became unresponsive to touch, and eventually rebooted.

My only other thought is to do a factory reset on the phone and start again, but I really don't want to lose a lot of my app data. Any one else have or had something similar going on?

I too had this problem after having updated to 8.3 on my iPhone 5. I don't know if the fact that minutes after updating, i got a message from ATT asking me to update my carrier settings, which I also did, played a role. My phone would go into a cycle of multiple reboots if it was charging while in sleep mode, but would not happen if kept awake during the charging period. The phone would also get very warm during this time. My problem was solved by resetting the Network settings only, so there does seem to be some interplay with the carrier/Network settings and the new IOS that was causing the problem. Good luck everybody!

Sorry guys, the "Reset Network" strategy doesn't work again. I realized that once I use a powerbank and then revert to a wall-plug charger, the problem will return. Perhaps one should avoid using powerbanks. If the problem happens again, just reset the network settings and it should work again (for a few days). Anyway this is really troublesome for me, hope any of you who found a better solution can shed some light. Hoping the next update would resolve this issue for Iphone 4S users.

I've tried both the global reset and network reset and neither work. The problem is intermittent (for me at least), and only seems to happen on average a couple times per week but on a very inconsistent schedule, so figuring out whether a change actually fixes things is very difficult. You pretty much have to wait a few weeks before you can be sure... one week it will happen 3 or 4 nights in a row, and then it won't happen again for a week and a half.

Very annoying, Apple! 😟

I Have found the solution. assuming that we all have a home computer which has the iTunes for sync, if we ever connect the 4S any other computer without iTunes (maybe having software like if ifunbox ) or for charging or any usb otg capable device or powerbanks or anything that tries to mount the 4S, this problem will surface. some lock mechanism failure causes this. To solve, connect to home computer, login to iTunes, access iTunes Store maybe check purchase history etc. and let the phone charge. Keep computer on till charging complete. Next charge can be done using normal charger.

Complete restored and working fine for one week. Finally i accept the carrier update and nothing wrong for three more days. Yesterday reboot problem came back.

During this period, dont install any other program and dont sychronised with itunes. Just charged with the same wall outlet.

What's faulty ? Phone, carrier update or the mix ?

I had the same problem even after a fI'll factory restore. What fixed it for me was to calibrate the battery, I.e. Letting it run down to 0% and switch off, leave it for a few hours to drain further, then allow it to charge for at least 6hours without taking it off charge (will work quicker if the phone is off when charging). once at 100% do a hard reset (hold home and power buttons together until phone reboots - no data will be lost). Then repeat one more time. Ive had no reboots since....touch wood.
