This book cannot be opened because required software cannot be downloaded.

Hi, I have an iPad 4 running iOS 8.3 and I am suddenly unable to open any books in iBooks due to the above error message, it was working fine earlier today but now won't let me open any, i turned the iPad off and on again and reset it (I think I did this correctly) but it has not fixed the problem. Has anyone come across this error before and if so how did you fix it? Thanks.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.


Otherwise you may need to:

  1. Delete and redownload any books on the device
  2. Restore the iPad as a new device.
