iOS 8.3 Music App Bug

SInce updating to 8.3 the Music app no longer remembers where it left off on Shuffle play after closing the app. I've checked settings, rebooted, etc. What am I missing?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.3

Since updating to the 8.3 I've also had the same issue with the music player not remembering the shuffle after closing the app. This is likely a bug that Apple needs to fix!!!! Very annoying because I don't want to have to keep playing music over and over again... Your not missing anything Gareth Glynn, this is a total iOS bug issue. We might have to wait for a future iOS 8.3.1 but that seems unlikely at this point according to reports. Probably the best possibility to get a fix for the issue is to wait for iOS 8.4 where apple is working on the music app for a new look and features. Expect it at around June before WWDC so might have to deal with it for a while.

I am experiencing the same "glitch" and noticed it almost immediately after updating to iOS 8.3 on my iPhone 5S. I listen to my music at least 2 hours a day and it's really annoying that I have to restart my shuffled playlist (I have close to 700 songs on my phone). I found that when I'm done listening for the day, I just pause the song and when I double click my home button, I don't swipe the music app away so basically it's still running in the background and the next time I access my music it's paused on the last song I listened to. I don't really see the need to install yet another app when this is kind of a simple fix until a new update comes out. Coincidentally a friend who is a Director at Apple was in California when I emailed him about this issue and he said he would pass along the info to the team there.

I completely agree wes786!!! I was listening to music the other day using the widget that I was using as a bypass of the music player shuffle but even that failed after a while. This is such a problem I can't get through a setlist so this is something that Apple definitely needs to fix and they are working on a much better improved music player with iOS 8.4 with different shuffling option, re-arrange playlists and shuffle music before songs play, and many more new enhancements to the music player. It all is in plans to launch Beats Music next week so the update should be available shortly after next monday (granted past updates)... It will be a big visual design over hall and will be more intuitive to use. It's optimism that at this point is worth 1 more week.

This is the most frustrating thing! I listen to my music everyday to and from work. If I'm listening to an album and don't finish, I lose my place, if I create a genius playlist, I lose it and as you say, when you shuffle, you lose your place and have to start again! I really hope they fix it. I've always stuck with Apple music but it may now make me turn towards Spotify or others.

Hey lifesabeach 2, I wouldn't be so closed minded about the new update. I watched the keynote the other day and have been following the update through now it's 3rd beta and probably will get at least 5 betas before public release. The odds that more issues would occur as a result of taking time to address and solve all the current issues isn't likely to happen. Once apple takes the time to fix things it does get better. While ios 8.3 isn't perfect it certainly is better than before. Let's see what happens with the update before making any rash conclusions on the update. The music service does look pretty good and much needed so it's something to look forward to. Also this is the last update before ios 9 as stated yesterday at the keynote. I'm certainly looking to ios 9 because it's a smaller release because apple knows they screwed up ios 8 big time!!!! The updates from now on will be smaller in size and take up less on the device which is another benefit. Apple isn't perfect and nor is google (when it comes to updates) to fix all the problems at once or it wouldn't be feasible. I think we should be lucky the next update is exclusively on music. For now try my suggestion of next/forward widget because it works (temporarily) and it's small enough to not take up a lot of memory and wait for the 30th.

Hey wes786, I was just as disappointed as you to get the new music app only to realize that it didn't work like it did before. Perhaps Apple was making it their intention with their new streaming service that the organizing of a playlist or something else etc was the focus and the bug wasn't the issue. It's certainly annoying, if you signed up for the ios 9 public beta this July though we might see more added to Music because it was confirmed more will be added/fixed so perhaps it's one they will have to focus on in iOS 9. For now what you can do because the Music Player isn't going to kill your battery is just leave it open for now, that I guess is the whole point of multitasking. Other than that Apple is late to the Music Streaming Service and I gotta tell you it's not bad for what it was being targeted as, so at least that's a positive. 🙂

Hey Apple if you can read what I'm about to post here I would like to say Apple Music is pretty AMAZING!! The service is getting really good reviews early on and you have a good review from me.. That isn't my issue!! My issue is HOW CAN YOU LAUNCH AN AMAZING SERVICE ON A CRAPPY APP!!!!! There are SOOO MANY BUGS with the Music Player and iTUNES 12.2 it's INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!! You need to get with what customers are saying and FIX THESE ISSUES NOW!!!! If not people like me won't be signing up to stream music, I would consider it but right now the App doesn't remember shuffled music PERIOD!! It's so unintuitive even though you were preaching it as a "more easy to use experience". This couldn't be any further from the truth because I can't find things or figure out how it works and many other people would agree. Simplify the user experience and considering I've got to say this coming from Apple it's just not "Apple like". Also fix iCloud Music Library because this feature is a FAILURE!! Users shouldn't have to tell you how many times you screwed this launch up! We don't want to wait until iOS 9 and be the Taylor Swift of saying we need a fix NOW and not LATER!!! I'm beyond frustrated with the waiting game and will boycott buying and Apple services, products, or accessories until these issues are resolved for me!

Thanks,

A concerned Apple Fan!!!

Yes I'm aware of that.. I was trying to make a suggestion about how this bug is crippling our Music listening experience because we can't play our own music in an app for Music!! It's so frustrating that I've already posted work arounds but unfortunately they don't even work now! The only way to get it fixed is for Apple to fix it. And that doesn't look like it's going to happen..
