iPod always goes to recovery mode and needs restoring when battery runs out?

I have never had any problems with my iPod Classic but just recently whenever the battery runs out the iPod goes to recovery mode and needs completely restoring. Can anyone suggest why this keeps happening? The iPod is completely up to date.
