mac os x updated to lion chrome download

I have a mac os x 10.6.8, i did the update combo to 10.7 lion. Now I need a good web browser to use. The safari is not working anymore, and the firefox is slow and at times unresponsive. I have no start up disks for this mac because I purchased it online. Please Help, I dont have a lot of spare cash and need the internet for my son's oddesyware home schooling classes.

Due to the age of the hardware and software, using a current web browser is out of the question. I would suggest downloading an older browser for the machine.

Explain that, you can not update any version of 10.6 to 10.7 with a 10.7 updater. So what did you do?
