There is only one copy of a picture in the Photo Library. If you edit a picture in one album every other occurrence of that picture will show the edit also. At no time is the original image file edited. It's a nondestructive editing process.

At any time you can select an edited photo, go into the Edit mode and and use the Revert to Original button at the top go get the unedited version back everywere it is in the library. That original image file is considered the digital negative and is never touched.

The problem I have with this is, I don't know which album(s) or slide show may be using this photo. The hack I would probably try is find where the original photo is stored, then overwrite it. Then edit the photo so the preview is rendered again.

Anyone have a better method???

Unfortunately, I haven't found any Photos plugin to help this problem

If you wasn't to edit a photo with Photoshop you can do so from inside Photo with the purchase of this 99¢ application from the App Store: External Editors For Photos. Then you get to it via this Extensions menu in the Edit mode:

One thing to remember is that if you start out with a jpeg file you must save the edited version as a jpeg (flattened) file or it will not be recognized by Photos as an edited version.

THANKS!! I really appreciate your reply and tip. I am now going to go through all the tips on those pages! Maybe with the tips, my hatred of the lack of features will become bearable and keep me going until the next release, hopefully, eliminating the bulk of my complaints.

It would be nice to be able to save, lets say for an album with a lot of iPhoto retouched image, full res, "developed" image version and save it so if Edit is brought up accidentally, it won't clobber the previews. I still want to be able to revert back to the originals in the future if I'm willing to retouch them.

Again Thanks.
