how to stop the YouTube app from launching whenever I type YouTube.com into my browser.

This has only started happening today, I've never had this problem before. I would like to open YouTube.com in my safari browser so I can look at the analytics on my channel. But whenever I try, the YouTube app opens up. After swiping the app away and typing in the address again a few times, the browser brings me to YouTube without launching the app. But then when I click anything after that, the app opens again. At this point no amount of retrying does anything. How do I stop the app from launching every time? It's never done this before today. I am on an iPad.

iPad 2, iOS 8.3

That's definately new behavior, my iPad 4 running IOS 8.3 is doing it too. I'm guessing it may be a glitch courtesy of IOS 8.3 but don't know for sure. You can report the problem to Apple at the link below. I believe YouTube has a place in-app for reporting problems.

Edit. You mentioned you need the website for testing. For the time being could you just delete the app ?

Yea I was thinking that may be what the problem was. I updating my iPad yesterday and then this happens today. I haven't gotten a glitch with a new update before so I guess it was only a matter of time haha. I did delete the app temporarily and it worked so I'll just have to do that till the glitch is fixed. Thanks!

My iPhone just started opening the browser when I open the app. I want the app NOT the browser! How do I get the YouTube app back?

When you tap the YouTube app icon Safari opens ? If it's an older phone it might be because YouTube stopped supporting their older apps. This might be a question you'll need to ask YouTube for an answer.

It's a iPhone 5 and it just started doing it today. Tapping the app opens Safari I much perfer the app.

Start with basic trouble shooting.

A reset comes first. Press and hold both the home and power buttons until the Apple logo appears. When it does release both fingers. Wait until your iPhone starts on it's own.

If it's still not working correctly try deleting and reinstalling the YouTube app.

It's better to uninstall Youtube, as the mobile(browser) version of youtube is better than the Youtube app(Sometimes the Video stops and only audio plays).

Also the Browser version buffers videos faster than the App.

Just speculating here, but I don't think this is a glitch. It has happened to me across multiple OS updates on both iPad 3 and 4.

Recently, I saw a Pop-up ad on my YouTube app for the paid service (i.e. YouTube Red) they advertised being able to listen music on the app while using other apps... anyone can do this however (on iPad anyway), by using any web browser... except for when this "glitch" happens. I recommend deleting the app. Otherwise you have to type in youtube.com and then click on return to safari in the app (top left corner) to get around this... Just be prepared to repeat these steps multiple times before safari lets you use the website.

fyi, haven't used other browsers, so switching away from safari might help too, but I haven't tried.
