I have the exact same problem. Can sync from the computer wirelessly but my iPhone just says plug into computer to sync. Doesn’t show the computer it’s linked to to sync from my phone. No “sync now” option. Nothing. Done EVERYTHNG you’re supposed to do multiple times. Nothing. It’s like Apple took that option away. I plug my phone in, iTunes on the computer is on and open, shows the phone is connected wirelessly, charging from the wall plug,it doesn’t even sync on its own like a previous post said it would. No option at all on the WiFi sync screen on my phone. Just “plug your phone to computer” EVERY TIME. Is that option gone forever. Just tell us if it is. Save a lot of frustration. And please.... don’t give me instructions on how to set up sync for the thousandth time. I know all about that. Just want to simply know why I can’t initiate sync anymore from my iPhone. It doesn’t show the computer and sync now at all anymore. No matter what I’ve tried. Please help if you REALLY know the answer. Thank you

Yes. It pretty much defeats the whole purpose of “WiFi Sync”. If I have to go to my computer to initiate the sync now process,I might as well just go ahead and plug it in to my computer. I’m there anyway. So,if they’re not going to fix this problem, they might as well just do away with the WiFi sync option all together on the phone. It’s just something you’ll want to try to use and it won’t. Just confuses people. Like me! I love Apple but they sure do have their little problems.

Hello zidge17511,

After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to sync via Wi-Fi and start it from the iPhone. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

Sync your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch with iTunes using Wi-Fi - Apple Support

  1. When the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes. Then you can sync it. The iOS device will sync automatically when the following conditions are true:
    • The iOS device is charging.
    • iTunes is open on the computer.
    • The iOS device and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. When your device is connected with iTunes via Wi-Fi, you can select the device and then configure sync and other options.
  3. Click Apply or Sync to sync the iOS device.

If the iOS device doesn't appear in the Devices section or you can't sync, try troubleshooting iTunes Wi-Fi syncing.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Have a nice day,

The problem is Apple wants the wifi sync to be automatic regardless of what the user actually wants.

Then, to prevent draining your battery with the automatic sync, and to prevent the device losing power while performing a sync, they insist the iOS device is charging before it will auto sync.

And of course, to charge means plugging in a cable, which for me defeats the benefits of wifi sync.

At this moment in time, I have 10 app updates that my Mac has downloaded and I want installed on my iPhone. I'm in the garden with my family, so my options are to go inside and plug my phone into the computer to charge it, negating wifi sync, or download the updates again From the apple servers. I choose the latter in the hope that they one day realise I'm hitting their servers 4 times for the same update because they won't let wifi sync work how it should.
