iCloud Photo Library Upload - Extremely Slow Uploads

Hi all,

My iCloud Photo Library uploads from the Photos app is extremely slow. I have about a 6 mbps upload connection but cloudd (the process that is uploading the photos) barely uses more than 200Kbps .. sometimes barely 10Kbps.

Has anyone seen this issue? Have tried combinations/permutations of repairing library, turning iCloud Photo Library off/on, signing out of iCloud etc ...

At this rate, it is going to take me years to upload 45K photos.

Thanks for any suggestions

Unfortunately I don't have a solution, but I'd like to add my voice.

I've uploaded 450 gigabytes worth of photos and videos to Google Photos within 8 days.

Uploading the same collection to the iCloud Photo Library will take an estimated THREE TO FOUR MONTHS.

Throttling these cloud services to the point that they're completely unusable provides a horrible user experience. Please report your feedback to Apple via the support website or the Photos app.

I have a gigabit connection and its still very slow, the issue isn't so much the upload speed, its that the app stops and starts by itself unpredictably. For example, if you use hot corners, it stops uploading. If the photo's window gets out of focus, it can stop uploading. If the machine goes to sleep, it stops uploading.

The only way to keep the gas pedal down is to load the Photo's app, disable screensaver and disable sleep, then keep the Photo's window in focus and walk away.

The service was obviously designed to upload a handful of photo's at a time, which is how most of us use a camera anyway. Clearly uploading an existing photo library seems to be something it was not designed for.

Unfortunately it's not that simple Larry. For some users it could take many weeks or even months to upload their photo libraries if they don't take control of the situation.

By looking at the logs on my iMac I was able to isolate when it uploads and when it doesn't. It ONLY uploads when the Photos application is in focus/foreground and the machine awake with no screensaver active. The moment I click on a different window it stops uploading.

You can defend this implementation if you want to but it isn't helping the people struggling with this problem, it's a bug not a feature.

I do not defend anything as I have no interest in the implementation - I explain things so others can use the software

Yes it is slow - we have already said that many time - it took me about ten days for 7000 Photos - everyone knows that

and if you follow the advice and keep the Mac hotos open, teh Mac powered and awake adn on 24/7 it will finish

If you think it is a bug then you need to tell Apple as no one here can change anything, we can educate people who listen but we can not fix anything - only Apple can fix things - http://www.apple.com/feedback/
