Why can't I post to communities using iOS device

Just curious why I can't post to Apple Support Communities using an iOS device. Maybe I am naive, but I figured....Apple product, Apple forum??? Figured there would be some compatibility.

I can read posts just fine, it's just when I hit reply, nothing happens. What's the deal?

FYI I'm typing this from my iMac.

No matter how many ways you put it your reply was ill considered. Wouldn't it have been just as easy to say, "That is not correct, you can edit it using Safari in the ASC?" Your last sentence was uncalled for and basically a flame. If I had seen it earlier I would have replied to Tuttle that the situation had changed and you could now edit. (He is correct that at one time you could not).

Now if they could just get rid of the double letters to start a post.

deggie,

Your last sentence was uncalled for and basically a flame.

Yes.. with hindsight this morning... I believe my last sentence came across much 'harder' that i had intended....

For that I apologize to Tuttle.... unreservedly.

He is correct that at one time you could not

Umm.. I never came across that issue myself.. but then there was a period of time that I wasn't using my iPad to access ASC.... I assume it was for a brief period of time after another of the Jive updates?

Now if they could just get rid of the double letters to start a post.

...or any of the other recent oddities/issues using ASC on an iOS device.... like the need to get rid of the keyboard when Keychain automatically fills in your login details...

This, after the recent updates to ASC were intended to improve matters for iOS devices...

Cheers..

Aloha Nigel.

It's definately worth noting, thanks for the added info. I'm surprized this is the first time I've heard of this problem. We would need someone who's been a Forum member longer then me with a better memory to know if this is something new or working as it's suppose to work.

Stay well. Bob.

Hi Bob,

Yes.. I rarely use Private Browsing Mode in Safari... as I have had issues with other websites not functioning correctly after enabling it.... so I wasn't aware of any such issues either... nor can I recall anyone else commenting specifically on this issue before either...

As you said, it would be useful if someone who has used Private Browsing on a regular basis on both Macs and iOS devices... can confirm that this problem has always been this way with Safari/ASC or if it's a recent development...

Cheers..

UUp until the major change before this one you could not edit form an iOS device, it was like this for quite a bit of time. Only with the last major upgrade could you use the advanced editing function.

Huh! Well, that is odd because I used the iPad often for posting/editing posts prior to the recent updates without issue..... Not constantly i will admit but with some degree of frequency and never had an issue... Are you referring to the advanced editing features only or all editing including the basic editor?

P.S. I'm actually on my Mac, I added the second U manually for drama.

This would be almost 3 years ago, when the version that volunteers here worked on (including Tuttle) was released. Prior to that iOS devices had no access to editing period. If you search from back in that era you can find some addendum posts from me where I was using my iPad or iPhone and I would add an additional post and mention no editing function was available.

Howzabout a REALLY old Safari version 4.1.3 (c. 2004) - all JavaScript links dead as door-nails. Not anecdotal from the past, but shows old versions are like new versions (?)

Are you referring to an avatar or a picture only visible in your profile - you can do the latter, but you need to be level 3 to be able to have a custom avatar.

And, if you start here:

then choose the correct hardware or software - I chose iMac - you wind up with this window where you can type in a question (which will be the subject line):

A lucky few Level 1 people have a Bio page picture as a avatar. It's a glitch, you're not missing anything.

I actually tested this theory on ChitlinsConCarne = it did in fact give me the Profile Pic as an avatar - then, I decided to continue testing... SNAFUed it back to normal 😉

Lest we forget, a ton off these persistent failures are somehow attached to folk's Apple IDs... I can't remember seeing anyone 'report back' after going off to work it out with the Hosts and/or Engineers
