Watch keeps locking

So, I setup a passcode on my Watch and I thought that it would stay unlocked while on my wrist and only require the passcode when taken off but that doesn't seem to be the case. Am I wrong?

I have Simple Passcode set, Unlock with iPhone turned on and also Wrist Detection turned on.

On an iPhone 5S or above the phone locks when you turn it off and requires Touch ID or the passcode immediately. The auto lock feature should have no bearing per what you just said, as your phone should be locked in your pocket and you should be able to use your watch. That is the whole point. Why would your phone be unlocked and you be using the watch at the same time! Makes no sense.

A lot of the news sites are reporting that if you have tattoos on the area where the watch that the watch will lock itself. That may be the issue with me because I have every tattoos. However I have gotten the situation a little bit better by doing a reset holding the home button and the digital crown. Doesn't walk nearly as much

I have wrist tattoos on the top, but not on the inside. I've had issues with passcode (had to disable it) messing with activity tracking, and I have another thread about how it's not tracking standing up, and failing to remind to do so, as well.

Going to wear the watch on my "bare skin" today and see if that makes a difference for any of the problems I'm having. I know resetting it sure doesn't help. Have done so many times.

Wore my watch today on the inside of my wrist (no tattoo ink there at all) with passcode turned back on, and never once had an issue. Unlocked it the first time, and so long as it stayed on my wrist, it stayed unlocked. Starting to agree with fellow tattooed folks that it's our ink being an issue. A shame. Hope Apple fixes this soon.

Mine was requiring the password too.

I tried the solution that was mentioned above and it worked perfect.

Here's what it was again.

1. Remove the watch from your wrist.

2. Enter your passcode on the watch after it has been removed.

3. Attached the watch to your wrist again.

4. Turn WiFi off on the iPhone.

Once I turned off WiFi it worked. I then turned WiFi back on and everything is still working.

Thanks, I should have wrote it the first time someone mentioned this - I forgot to, but this fix doesn't work. At least not for me, when I wear the watch ontop of my wrist.

I have a tattoo on my wrist - not even a full sleeve, just some line work in a symbol that covers my wrist on the top side, and I have some issues with my watch. (For anyone curious, this is the tattoo in question: http://ih1.redbubble.net/image.34454445.8912/sticker,375x360.png just some lines, no shading)

Yesterday (29th) I wore my watch on the inside of my wrist, where there are no tattoos whatsoever, and re-enabled passcode and never once had an issue with it. Unfortunately, it's uncomfortable and unattractive to wear my watch on the inside of my wrist, so I don't see this being a long term solution.

EDIT: I should mention that I chose only to disable passcode, not wrist detection, while wearing the watch ontop of my wrist. I did this the day I got it, after dealing with passcode issues (the 24th), and it has been mostly smooth sailing. Aside from the watch not reminding me to stand up or tracking it reliably. Yesterday, I re-enabled passcode for the first time in a few days, set it up, then immediately put the watch on the inside of my wrist (again, no tattoos there) and it worked fine all day. It mostly reminded me to stand up, and when I did stand up on my own, it looks like it tracked it.

The one thing that seems odd to me, while I definitely am covered in tattoos on both sides of my wrists, is the fact that the locking constantly seems to happen after the watch is been worn for a large number of hours. If I do a hard restart on the watch, it takes hours again before it starts auto lick The one thing that seems odd to me, while I definitely am covered in tattoos on both sides of my wrists, is the fact that the locking constantly seems to happen after the watch is been worn for a large number of hours. None of the solutions provided here worked for me.

In order to track this down, may I ask everyone on this thread to briefly respond with the following information:

1.) In the Activity app on your iPhone, do you see Stand time reported as 0?

2.) When starting a no goal Walking workout on your Apple Watch, do the timers auto pause even if you're moving?

3.) Do you sense that notifications come in unreliably?

4.) Does the Wrist Detection problem persist even when you ask a friend or family to wear your Apple Watch?

Yes

Yes

Yes

.... turning off Wrist Detection has solved points 2 and 3 for the moment, but obviously it's not an acceptable long-term solution.

I have talked again with Apple Support and they got me to send them some Watch logs after I made the exercise pause happen and then synced with iTunes.

So hopefully we are working towards some identification of the problem and an ultimate solution.

This also happened to me yesterday. I turned the watch on and off, no difference. I reset all content and settings, re-paired with iPhone 6, and it did it again, but only once. It has been fine since then.

Seeing as how it happened yesterday morning, right after I pulled the watch off the charger, I wondered if the extra heat generated by the charger may have played a small part in it. Either way, Apple should get going on this issue and fix it, but is it software, or hardware?

I'm still waiting on a Milanese replacement band as mine won't lock into place when I switch the band around, so Apple has a few things to work out for me.
