app store error "this item is being modified"

I purchased OS X lion for my old school macbook and was given a redeem code. When I try to redeem the code, it tells me "This item is being modified. Please Try Again Later." I've checked internet, did the updates on the computer and nothing seems to make a difference.

I have the 2011 MacBook, the last one with the white plastic case.

As soon as I saw this I tried to redeem again, but no luck; same old message. I decided to restart my system and try again (something the Apple tech asked me to try) I felt like a crazy person thinking it would work but success! It redeemed! Now to head over to 'Purchases' to downlo..... wait, where's my OS X Mountain Lion?!

I tried searching the store, didn't see it. Restarted the App Store, nada. I finally managed to wander into my Account settings and there was this option to 'View Hidden Purchases'; yes please. Which takes me to page where I could 'unhide' OS X Mountain Lion (I don't remember hiding that).

Ta-da! it's in my 'Purchases' and currently downloading! Best of luck to the rest of you.

Success here, as well.

Considering how much trouble it was to get your new OS upgrade, you might want to back it up.

I'm told the installer removes itself after the installation is complete, so if you need to reinstall the OS in the future (like after a hard drive failure) you may need to download it again from the App Store. I'm a bit uneasy about that, right now.

So, if you want to make a physical install disc - USB or DVD, it's best to do that *BEFORE* you actually install the OS update.

I forgot to mention that my version of the OS 10.8.5 Mountain Lion DMG was a bit too big to fit on a single layer DVD, but it worked for me on a dual layer DVD (get a good one, like Verbatim). Flash drive is probably the better way to go.
