rMBP 2015 Wake Reason: ARPT (Network)

I can't seem to find out what is waking my Mac up so much. Battery life on standby is terrible. Snippet from running "syslog | grep -i "Wake reason"" through Terminal:

Can't seem to find out the issue via Google. I have extensively searched.

Appreciate any help.

P.S. this is a duplicate from rMBP 2015 10.10.3 Wake Reason: ARPT (Network). I do not know how it ended up in the OS X Mavericks section because I clearly remembered choosing Yosemite from the dropdown list. Anyhow, that one is closed and I would appreciate any help I can get from this section of the forum.

Thanks.

Today I chat again with Apple Advisor via phone and he told me to erase whole disk and re-install OS X again and if the issue persist he recommend me to take the unit straight to the nearest Authorised Service Provider (In Finland we do not have a Apple Stores) for solving the problem. He said me this is probably a hardware based problem due clean OS X install or SMC/PRAM reset not solve this.

...And clean install didn't solve this so tomorrow I'll carry the unit to a ASP for the service. I'll keep this thread updated. 🙂

Ive spoken to them many times, every time they tell the problem doesn't exist, despite 9 out of 10 people having an issue.

I anticipate a repair will not solve your problem as its something that is occurring on brand new and old laptops.

Its either software, or Apple is refusing to accept it as a problem as it will turn our 9 out of 10 laptops will need 'free' repairs.

They told me they aren't familiar with the problem but it have to be solved as soon as possible. They also confirm it's not normal and unit should not lose 40% battery during night in sleep and these ARPT wakes should not happen. In Finland we have a strict consumer laws and I'm sure this will be sorted out in some way and I'll push them hard to fix this problem - I don't care is it hardware or software based.

I saw the same thing until I did an SMC reset though I'm not totally sure it was the SMC reset that seemed to help.

Last night I left wifi on and the battery didn't drain quickly (and there were MANY less wake ups in the logs -- maybe 5 or 6 for the whole night instead of every 15 minutes). This was with NO applications running.

Today I'm trying the same thing with safari running with my usual set of open tabs (gmail, documents, websites, etc.) and a couple of other random applications to see if it's possible that safari (or something else) is causing the constant wakeups.

Anyway, the big picture is that I'm trying to see if the SMC reset did it or if it was due to not running any applications.

I recently bought a 2015 MacBook Pro 13 256gb.

And today my nice grabbed my MacBook from my desk and I (afraid she would drop it) grabbed it.

I noticed it was really hot, which is really strange since it was in sleep mode.

When i opened the macbook it wouldn't react, i press the on button and it says it crashed. "This Mac shut down due to a problem".

I was really freaked out, how could a mac crash in sleep mode??? And even more worrisome, why was this mac still hot??

So my dad checked its log and indeed the same problem as above, the mac was apparently in sleep mode and woke up several times, most of them were network related, and it probably crashed on one of the wake ups. the last time being 4 ours before i noticed the heat.

Before putting it to sleep i remember it had around 60% of its battery life left, now only 30%.

I really don't know what to do with it, i'm just freaked that the Mac crashed and was really really hot in a well ventilated room.

I hope they fix this, because im not really thrilled that a 1400 euro machine performs like this.

So it seems like the SMC reset may have fixed my problem. That's not to say that other people aren't having different issues with standby time and waking up, but after resetting SMC I now only get about 9 wakeups per 12 hours instead of 50+ and the battery drain is MUCH lower (like 1% every 12 hours or so).

My 13 hour log looks like this now:

where before SMC reset I had a bunch of these:

Aug 6 05:38:02 skellingtonsMBP kernel[0] <Notice>: Wake reason: ?

Aug 6 05:38:02 skellingtonsMBP kernel[0] <Notice>: ARPT: Wake Reason: Wake on TCP Timeout

Aug 6 05:38:03 skellingtonsMBP kernel[0] <Notice>: AppleDeviceManagementHIDEventService::processWakeReason Wake reason: Host (0x01)

That seem to have gone away after SMC reset.

Now why I had to do this on a macbook that was fresh out of the box I don't know..... 😟

Aug 9, 2015 8:03 AM in response to skellington

Update:

I take it back, it had nothing to do with SMC reset BECAUSE I just realized that the apple support phone person gave me the wrong instructions for SMC reset and it wasn't reset.

However, the weird wake on TCP Timeout messages have diminished. Perhaps something else was running that was reset when I restarted the machine (independent of SMC reset).

Still trying to track this down.....
