The Apple Watch won't charge

Had charge problem and followed the macimaster post. Working now. Little disappointed that I had this problem out of the box.

plug the watch into a wall outlet and charge it side ways so the band isn't touching the charger This helped mine or place the band so it is straight under the charger like the charger is a couch and the band is the floor no bumbs under the charger!!

This did the trick - I believe if the charger isn't properly flat against the watch, it won't charge, and it does grow hot to the touch. Plugged my watch into another outlet, set the charger flat on the desk and placed the watch on top. Now the power is ticking up. Thanks!

I had the same issue. The watch would say its charging but the battery level would keep going down. The watch also got very warm.

Restarting the watch (holding down the digital crown and side buttons together) seemed to have fixed the problem.

I'm in the same situation as you, albraydji. I just signed up (additional £49) for applecare with the hopes that if the charge cable I'm about to test @ the apple store doesnt' work, I can tell them that I'm a AppleCare+ member.

Did they quote you a replacement time if you were an AppleCare member?

It would be pretty bad if they didn't hold at least a few models back from customers to have replacements on hand for this type of stuff.

Anyway, I'll report back here if I find anything @ the store/cables/chargers that work.

For me:

-2 button reset didn't work

-I just unpaired (with 30% left) and it's now saying that I can't re-pair becuase I'm to low on juice.

Feel a bit silly in that Im the first one of my friends to have this, but I'm like, "the sh|t wont charge."

Sitring at the genius bar now, so I'll let you all know. As my wife said last night when I was joking about all the support / responses on this page-- "you are my people."😁

It was the charging cable.

I also unpaired right before going into the store (and repaired once in the store) so it might have been a combination of both.

Anyway, working watch, fully charged, they swapped out my cable, no problem.

Same issue (watch not charging). Charging green icon did NOT display.

These steps worked for me:

1) Restart (hold down side button, swipe on the Power Off option. Then, hold down Digital Crown and side button at the same time).

Result: issue persists.

2) Reset (iPhone > Apple Watch app > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings > Restore from backup)

Result: Watch interface got stuck after choosing "English" language step.

3) To unstuck watch, plug watch into an *iPad* charger (which outputs 10W instead of 5W) for a couple of seconds.

Result: "Charging" icon immediately displayed for the first time 🙂. I guess it just needed a jump start 😉

Connect back to watch charger will now charge to 100% as expected.

Same for me- new cable didn't work. Reset/Repair didn't work. Gets super hot when trying to charge. Clearly defective. No AppleCare.

I Followed exactly the same process as Giovanni and it worked. Just rebooting didn't.

I am also thinking problem may be related to charger and watch orientation. I think there has to a be perfect contact and alignment. A little tricky with metal band. Just another thought.

I agree I think the alignment is the problem, my watch was getting really hot and the % just kept going down. I switch how I had it sitting on the desk, so the face was laying down, and the charger could be flat and magnetically stay centered. Now the % is going up and it's mildly warm instead of super hot.

It just seems super flaky on some watches. Mine worked fine for a couple of days, then got super hot next time I charged it. Totally shut down because it was too hot. Now it will charge successfully maybe 1 out of 10 tries, otherwise gets super hot and does not charge.
