Can barely feel the taptic engine

So I've had the watch now for about eight hours and I can barely feel the taptic engine for new notifications. I'm finding that I missing about 9/10 notifications coming to the watch because I just can't feel it tapping.

I have the alert haptics turned up and still it's hardly detectable. Even when I send myself test notifications while sitting alone in a quiet room, and I'm expecting the tap, I can barely sense it.

I'm coming from a Pebble and I never missed a vibration on that, so I know my wrist works.

This leads me to think it's one of two things. Either the taptic engine on my watch is bad, just like on John Gruber's first test unit. Or the taptic engine just isn't that good.

Apple - please release a software patch to increase strength of tap or increase duration and frequency of taps - great idea but if it is truly supposed to be felt - it needs to be scaled to the individual.

Not at all worked about extra demand on battery life - had for a month and usually run from 6 am to midnight and end the day with between 15%-30%

From the Help file:

Adjust haptic intensity. Apple Watch taps your wrist for certain notifications and alerts, and you can adjust the intensity of these haptics. Open Settings User uploaded file, then scroll down and tap Sounds & Haptics. Tap the haptic buttons under Ringer and Alert Haptics or tap the slider once to select it, then turn the Digital Crown to adjust the haptic intensity. Or open the Apple Watch app on iPhone, tap My Watch, tap Sounds & Haptics, then drag the Ringer and Alert Haptics slider.

And if that doesn't work, call tech support. It could be a bad unit. Other people don't seem to have problem at maximum level.

I agree that the haptic feedback needs to be stronger or at least repeat itself a few times. I am also missing notifications. However, my own personal theory is that I'm just not use to getting notifications with a single tap to the wrist. I'm use to that old school Zzzzt Zzzzt that most phones and smart watches have. Otherwise I have a tendency to unconsciously ignore it.

Mine seems to be quite strong and several times I jumped when it vibrated. My wife asked me what was wrong! It sounds like yours may not be normal. At first I thought your band may be too loose. My sport band is quite snug, but even opening it one more notch doesn't diminish the vibration significantly.

You may want to take it in to an Apple store where you can have them evaluate it (if there is one near you) Otherwise, I'd call AppleCare at (800) 275-2273

Even if the hardware is operating at strongest effort - seems like a software fix would be quick fix that would be a big step in the right direction.

If Apple would just give the individual to increase the frequency and duration of signals.

I will feel it after a few seconds even if I'm moving around.

I'm not holding out to be strong enough to wake me each morning - but at least get my attention when I am up and about.

May I ask which configuration of the watch you have? I am only asking because I purchased two watches, Apple Watch Sport 42mm Space Gray and the Apple Watch 42mm Black Leather Loop (I couldn't make up my mind). I received both on Friday June 5th and from the start the Apple Watch Sport never vibrated. I took it into two different apple stores and the first one told me that the tap is very subtle but I could swear it was not vibrating. The second one couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. They reset my phone twice and restored the watch to factory settings another couple of times but still nothing was working. They offered to send it in for repair/replacement but since I had two I opted to just return the sport (Turns out I didn't have to make the decision of which watch to keep). If I hadn't had the second watch I wouldn't have known what a proper tap would have felt like. I noticed in other forums that most of those that cant feel a vibration have the Space Gray and was trying to see if there was a trend. You should be able to feel a tap when you move the intensity meter up. If you don't I advise you to visit your local apple store.

I have the same problem. If I am focussed on the watch then I can feel the haptic alerts but if I am doing something else then I often miss them as they are too weak even at maximum strength setting and even with 'Prominent Haptic' enabled. I know that the my watch is able to deliver quite strong haptic feedback since when I *send* a heartbeat the feedback while it is 'recording' is quite powerful. But when I then receive the same heartbeat (I sent it to myself) it is significantly weaker. So it seems to me that there is a software issue at work as well as any possible hardware issues. I think they just need to make the 'maximum'; setting stringer (maybe 50% stronger than currently).

I'm having the same issue. I've only had it for a day, so maybe I'll get used to it, but it seems very weak now. And yes, I have turned on Prominent Haptic. One of my major reasons for buying this watch was that I spend a lot of time working in a noisy area (noisy enough to require hearing protection), and both the ringer and the vibrate on my iPhone 6 Plus are so weak that I don't notice them. I assumed that something buzzing right on my wrist would be impossible to miss. If I'm sitting in my office, I'll probably notice it, but if I'm moving around and unable to hear it, I'll never be aware of it.

On iPhone go to wath settings sounds & haptics put strength on full & prominent haptic on green.

These steps were suggested - and tried by the OP (who had haptic strength turned up from the outset) - in April 2015, 11 months ago.

Yup, I have the haptic alerts set at the maximum intensity ..

When I turned on the Prominent Haptic I was able to feel them better ..

Can barely feel the taptic engine
