Videos won't import into iTunes 7

I want to put some of my own videos onto my new iPod video, but I can't put any videos into iTunes. I've tried dragging and dropping, "import" and "add file". And nothign ever shows up. How am I suppossed to put video into itunes that I don't buy from the iTunes store? Thanks for the help.

I can open them in quicktime. For some reason they won't go into iTunes. The files are .m4v so they should be able to be dropped into itunes or my ipod, but they wont let me add them for whatever reason..

Also, I tried dropping incompatible video into my ipod and it gave me an error message that says the video couldnt be transfered because it's incompatible. I Then tried putting video on my ipod that is compatible and it didn't do anything.

This also happens with me. I have an Intel Core Duo 17", running iTunes 7.1 with the latest Quicktime, and OS 10.4.4. My movies work great in Quicktime, but won't import into iTunes at all. When I try to drop them on my iPod directly, it tells me that my 5th gen iPod can't display video.

I brought my iPod into work today, and hooked it up to the G5/dual 1.8 tower here, also running iTunes 7, and quicktime (7.1.3 I think?), OS 10.3.9. I was able to drop the videos directly into iTunes, and they showed up fine. I was also able to then put the video on my iPod.

As for the video, I converted them to .mp4 files with a 3rd party converter from .mpg files.

Interested to see what the solution is. Glad I'm not the only one with this problem!

Another variant of the problem. My video ipod had 100 music videos and movies successfully loaded onto it. I 'upgraded' itunes to version 7 in order to install a new nano ipod which was successful.

However now none of my mp4 files play in itunes or quicktime on my video ipod! The audio is ok but video is scrambled. Any ideas why?

Is this a codec issue and can i download codecs anywhere?
All the files were mpgs/avi files converted to mp4 using videora freeware.

Or can I 'rollback' the install somehow? HELP!!

it seems that resinstall if QT worked for rcn - so everyone hear having weirdness - try a resinstall of both QT & itunes (not thru Software update) and then do a Repair Permissions thru Disk Utility - then try it again.

eventhough you may have the latest versions - a reinstall may fix something that is broken.
