Every so often my charger stops working and my Macbook Pro 15" 2009 turns off with it.
It takes ages before it starts working again and will only work (most of the time) if I switch to another plug socket - even if it's part of the same extension cable.
I only bought my charger in October after my last one disintegrated. Any ideas? Help!!!

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

Is the replacement charger from Apple?
Your battery may be faulty.
Open System Information>Power and post this from your MBP:
(make certain that the charger is connected)

I am aware my battery needs servicing (unfortunately I dont have apple care) so I wonder if this may be the issue? and yes the replacement is from Apple
Hey I tried this, the only way I'll know if this has helped is if my charger doesn't cut out (and turn off my macbook with it) within the next fortnight 😕

I suggest that you replace the battery. I am fairly certain that the Full Charge Capacity is below the original by more than 80%. That is Apple's guideline for replacement.
