Your computer was restarted because of a problem

I occasionally get my computer shutting down, and I can't seem to understand why. OS X produced an error report that was sent to Apple, and I have provided it below. Can anyone help me here?

You have the above kernel extensions installed. 3rd party kernel extensions are a common cause of kernel panics.

You can boot into Safe Mode, which will not load the 3rd party extensions, and see if the panics stop

Have you added RAM to your iMac. 12GB is not a typical memory size. It is always possible that you are having RAM failues. Not unusual when 3rd party RAM is involved. You can run something like Rember overnight (or over the weekend) with lots of repeat loops to see if it can detect RAM failures

<http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/>

Again, to do a proper RAM test you must specify lots of loops (or Maximum) and let it run. Also quick as many apps and 3rd party additions that you can so that Rember can get control of as much RAM for testing as it can. You might even try booting into Safe Mode (see above link) to minimize the things started when you boot and login.

You could also try removing the 3rd party RAM and putting back the original Apple RAM to see if that stops the panics.

Can't I just remove the kernel extensions?

Sure. But I assumed you wanted some of them, such as Parallels virtual machine. Not sure what all the other ones do, but I assume you had a reason to install the packages associated with them.

But if you wish to remove them, get the un-installation instructions from the vendor and remove them using the instructions so you do not leave behind unintended bits.

Nah, I am removing Parallels. Will AppCleaner take care of it, or do I still need to contact the vendor?

You should go to the Vendor's web site. App cleaners sometimes remove things they shouldn't, or leave behind things they shouldn't. The vendor should know the most about their product.

But since I have not needed to remove these products, I cannot say how easy it will be.
