iPhoto to Photo > The journey ...

I don't understand you people any more.

Ok, so a new software had to be developed to manage pictures, JPG, images, video, etc. I get it. So you developed iPhoto...now I didn't like iPhoto because iPhoto didn't deal with the problem of managing the files...it leaves the root name of the file itself untouched, which if there is a problem with the file, or program, you spend nearly two months going through thousands of photo / image files trying to find your specific file...THAT btw is the actual problem. It doesn't matter what I name it in iPhoto, if it doesn't appear in all forms in FINDER. So if you eliminate a program, like iPhoto, then try to use Finder to find it, it doesn't show up anymore because the programming never changed the root file name. An obvious problem which NO ONE HAS CAUGHT ON TO.

Anyways, so you deliver us Photo. Ok, I'll try it,...

Problem 1) only photos from the last month transferred. Yep, out of 3000 photos and media files, only about 50 moved over. Solution, dig into the hard drive, find iPhoto, and select all the files and 'click, drag, and drop' into Photo...problem solved ? Nope.

Problem 2) Of all the 3000 image files that were transferring over, only 2500 made it, a message appears to tell you that due to 'lack of metadata' 500 files won't be transferred. No idea where they are, or they're names, of what they are about, so individually you can't fix the issue, just a list of images with the standard 'img_.000.jpg' ( as example ). I couldn't copy the files in the warning window, couldn't take a screen shot. So **** it, I guess I have image files that I need that are orbiting my hard drive like satellites.

So let me get this straight. You deliver a program, which forces you to use metadata input by hand, then transferred these images to a new photo managing program, and all that metadata is lost.....? *** ?

Problem 3) Albums....? Days upon days of organizing albums....information --gone ! No albums transferred over.

Problem 4) Places ... ? Kinda there... but no map, and no means of knowing where any of the pictures were taken around so to organize the files again....

Problem 5 ) No solution.....

I call customer support, I got moved to person after person, ( two people ) but neither understood the problem. Not that I had a problem, they understand why I'm upset, they don't know why its happening ? Have no clue.

So in summery...Apple, here's the deal, you better get your gear in the right drive cause you keep screwing up your updating. You ask us the user to participate in this user friendly experience but yet have developed a system which will change at a moments notice and require us to go back and do the filing ourselves anyways, your own metadata doesn't transfer to your own programs, and still the original problem still isn't fixed, not to mention that you duplicate file after file of media images to tagging, which I now have to do ALL OVER AGAIN. 3000 files, to tag, AGAIN. *** ? how the **** does someone still have a job after this ?

Seriously. This is a huge deal.

I have to fix this problem for myself, and then, I gotta go explain it to my parents....and fix it for them.

You're suppose to be the company that make computers easy. I am the generation which learn with Apple. I understand how to organize a hard drive, network computers, update RAM, compress files, find hidden software, set up WIFI...etc....

I don't understand how your own software doesn't communicate with your own software.

AND FYI - I shouldn't have to pick a name user name to file a complaint. Thanks to your company and others like it we all have bar codes on our ***** now. You can tell if I use the washroom, but I'll be ****** if I try to transfer files to the latest software.

1 - you have no idea what you are doing - no one on these forums wrote or designed any of the software you are talking about - this is strictly a user to user forum and you are only talking to other users no different from yrouself - except we understand how the software works and use it

2 - this is not a complaint forum - it is a help forum

3 - neither iphoto nor Photos is required - since you do not like either on there is a very simple solution - do not use them - use software that works the way you want - what could be simpler?

Actually, it is required if you want to use Apple's AirDisplay through Apple TV, unless I want to Jailbreak a AppleTV to use a third party software to display finished work.

All my graphic work is stored with Apple's software for easy iCloud access.

I know how to use the software fine, it happens to be a problem directly with the upgrade. It immediately removed any photo that wanted active in the last month through iCloud. Then removed iPhoto from my dock and buried it in my hard drive.

THERE IS NO COMPLAINT DEPT, for apple. THAT'S WHY I'M HERE !

I've spoke with 'Apple Care', I've retrieved my lost files, and I still can't export or import whole organized albums from iPhoto to the latest software upgrade Photo. THE BEST SOLUTION IS TO CLICK,DRAG,DROP - but it left out 500 jpg,gif,mov,-etc files, because 'they didn't have metadata' which is saying they were copyrighted, - photos from other artists that I used for reference. And now I have to go organize ALL 3000 images into their separate albums, and tag faces, and tag colours, and etc....

I know users use this community page, SO DO DEVELOPERS, that how they know what direction to develop. That's why its supported by APPLE.

Tried exporting from the old software, didn't work.

Tried importing from the new software didn't work.

The only solution I've found is click, drag, drop. But it doesn't take organized albums, it won't take copyrighted photos, and all the 'tagging' is gone. I have to start all over again. Not a single face was recognized, not a single album was accepted.

I even tried it again after getting your message. Still nothing. It won't export albums, photos, nothing. I tried it from the other direction from the new software, nothing.

Its a common problem, I've found half a dozen threads looking for a solution and the upgrade just happened last night.....

I just started a new thread cause I'm f--n ticked at the working I'm going to have to go through again....

But ya, I know how to export....thx anyway.

I can't export at all. Not with file name, or root, or anything. Seriously.

I'm pretty up to date - unless there is a vulcan mind meld app that I'm missing.

The error window displayed a reason by being Metadata. No other description. So I haven't got a clue as to what that means. But YES again have exported files from iPhoto previously, I just can't export them directly to Photo. I can import them directly while in Photo.

I can however export them to a folder on desktop and then import that folder's contents into Photo.

I tried that once. It did work, but anything with any video files type of copyright wouldn't play. And the third party program has to support AirPlay as well for best results. I recently tried it, and ended up trying to resize the window on the partnered screen. I tried 'gathered windows', didn't fix it.

The best results are with Apple programs with Apple Products. Then everything usually works great.
