imessage not showing old messages on Macbook Pro

Hi everyone!

I give up now, I have checked lots of threads and can't find a solution.

After the latest OS update my whole iMessage history disappeared from the Messages App. Where there once were conversations it's now blank. I have tried logging out on both my iPhone and Macbook, but nothing helps. Scrolling upwards in a conversation doesn't load the history either!

I have checked and all my chat history is in my "User Library" so they haven't been deleted, it's just as though the Macbook can't sync the history. Since I have checked a lot of threads I'm puzzled by one thing. I do not seem to have a chat.db file but on the other hand I have checked my girlfriends MBP (the same model) and she doesn't have it either and hers is working perfectly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Actually, I have some files like in the Messages Folder in Library folder. (see picture flie)

I reinstalled Yosemite from the Mac App Store, and Messages was working properly. But when I Updated to 10.10.3 the problem started.

It is very uncomfortable.

Actually message continue to be archived in the Archives folder in /User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Messages/Archives, because I could check this point in the folders, arranged by dates.

But the messages are not loaded in Messages application. I can't understand what's the matter.

Hi,

I have some left over from when I updated to OS X 10.10 rather than any that have appeared later.

Mine are based around this version number

chat.db.incompatible.v7006.sqlitedb

That will also play a part.

Having the same issue with message amnesia. All messages are available on my IOS devices, however, not on my 2 macs (iMac and MacBook Air).

With active chats, the messages don't stick around for more than a few hours. For inactive chats, the entire history is still visible. I can access all the photos through details. Both Mac's are running 10.10.4

Assuming it's a Yosemite issue. The problem started after installing the 14E17e update.

Yesterday, I attempted to re-sync everything. Reset my iPhone, signed in and out of iMessage with phone and macs. Redid message forwarding for all machines. No changes. All messages forward when sent or received but disappear on the macs after a few hours.

Hi,

If you are using a beta version of the OS and it is causing you issues then you need to back step to the last version of the OS that was a General Release.

This may mean you have older items and not those iMessages sent after the "update".

Those will not be retrievable as they are sent only once from the iMessages servers before they are deleted.

I used your method when migrating from a 10.9 machine to a 10.11 machine. This may or may not be similar to what you need when upgrading a single machine. To summarize,

  1. Quit Messages on both machines
  2. On the target, backed up ~/Library/Messages/ elsewhere, then emptied the folder
  3. On the source, copied ~/Library/Messages/ to the target. This was 3 chat.db* files, plus an Attachments folder.

Newer machines may have the Archive folder here too. If not, found it in ~/Library/Messages/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Messages/

  4. Restarted the target machine
  5. Opened Messages on the target and enjoyed my message history.

I had this problem in a distinct way, it only showed the last 6 messages of the conversation. There is a key sequence (I haven't figured out yet) that truncates the view. Which locks down how much you can see. There is no way to scroll up, or read past messages although you can see they are still there.

Quick easy fix is to: alt+click on the message thread (left side) to get the context menu for the convo, click show conversation in separate window.

This both displays all messages, and breaks the lock down in the main window restoring the full view.
