Unable to Check for Update - Apple Watch

I'm unable to update the software on my Apple Watch. It says "Unable to Check for Update - Checking for a software update failed because you are not connected to the Internet".

Both my Watch and iPhone 6 Plus have a full charge, are connected to Wi-Fi (which is confirmed to be working), and the 2 devices are sitting next to each other.

I tried restoring my iPhone through iTunes and am at iOS 8.3, watch is at 1.0 and is obviously brand new. I would like to check for updates on the Watch as the new emoji from iOS 8.3 do not display properly on the watch but am getting this error message.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I have just spent about 2 hours on an online chat trying to resolve this one. Apple have confirmed after diagnostic tests that both phone and watch are working correctly. I have reset phone and watch, turned wifi and bluetooth on and off, paired and unpaired, etc. all to no avail. Apple don't have an answer.

Fear not everyone. This is happening in general. I've been fortunate to have spent around 60 hours tinkering with mine and finding various faults. Apple have been calling me regular over the last 24 hours and I've found solutions to certain problems and passed them onto Apple. I have also taken part in a Apple discussion which has been passed onto the tech guys.

HOpefully the teething problems will be resolved very shortly. After all it is a new product and there will always be hiccups.

iPhone 5s 8.3 sport 42mm 1.0 same with me too. apple support confirmed there is no problem but it may be because there is a software update on the way.

Although when i first got my watch and paired it to iPhone i checked for a software update and it came up with your software is up to date and only started doing what we are all suffering with since Sunday.
