Apple Watch Sport screen scratched?

After 2 days of normal use and looking after my watch better than my own child I have found that when in direct sunlight i can see what appears to be a hairline scratch directly down the centre of the face. I just cannot understand why this has happened? nothing has bumped or came into contact weigh the face other than my finger, even at night when its on charge i placed it in an old pillow case until I can get a stand? Im very meticulous about looking after my products and find this very unsettling that its happened after 2 days. Its really distracting when I'm outside as the scratch scathes the light constantly.

Im sure if I go into the store I will basically be told its my own fault but what do you think my options are? is it possible that this was on the screen before I got it?

Just would like to know if anyone else has had this issue?

Cheers

Apple Watch, iOS 8.3

Same here. Although I've had my Series 1 space grey Watch since October (6 months) I've taken good care of it. Suddenly there is a deep scratch on the top corner and two tiny ones at the bottom. When I took it in to Staples to get Liquid Armour put on, the tech was shocked at the scratch and asked if I'd scratched it with a diamond. I don't use sharp objects at work or do any sort of manual labour that would expose it to abrasions. User uploaded fileCan anything be done? The Liquid Armour will protect it further but I expected the Watch to be resistant to scratches.

Since quite soon after I had my watch, I noticed a scuff to the top edge of the screen, today I've noticed some quite deep scuffs on the bottom edge of the screen. They are worst at the slightly raised rim around the screen, just before it curves down, so they don't obstruct the screen, but its frustrating it has them, especially given how expensive the watch is.

It kind of looks like it has been brushed heavily against a rough surface, such as a brick wall, but I have no recollection of that happening, nor can think when it might have. It does seem somewhat of a design flaw that the screen is so raised and exposed, and therefore so open to being scuffed in such a manner.

I am surprised, though, by how easily it seems to scuff, and how deeply. I'd've expected such an exposed screen would have been a much harder material than it appears to be. (I don't do anything that would expose the watch to significant risk of being scratched. I work at a desk.)

I have the same issue with my watch I treat it like a baby and it got a nice scratch. I dont understand how.

Hi

Scratches result from contact of some kind.

To help reduce the risk of damage from any debris on the screen, be sure to keep your Apple Watch clean and dry (use a soft, lint-free cloth):

The series 3 isn't any better. One week in that I had two scratches like the ones pictured in GadgetGirlJodi's reply. One month in and there are considerable, small scratches at the top of the watch where the display curves and even more long scratches in the bottom right 1/4th of the screen.

Some things that have come to mind that may have caused this:

  • Putting on oven mitts that go over the watch face
  • Long sleeve clothing
  • Wiping smudges off the watch face with a paper towel/clothing/finger
  • Watch face rubbing on my sweaty shirt during yoga

The above list are all day-to-day tasks. I have not dropped, hit or smashed the watch and yet it is showing more wear in one month than any $10 Casio watch from Walmart after years. In addition I catch myself always stressed out during the day making sure I'm extra careful while wearing it (definitely using the Breathe app, too bad reminders for it don't work in the current Watch OS). Heaven forbid the wind blow on it less the whole face becomes scratched. Watch OS is also pretty buggy and feels unfinished. Overall, I'm pretty disappointed in the quality of the watch all around, especially for the price. This will definitely be my last Apple wearable unless something is done to improve the glass quality.

So I bought my first apple watch second-generation a few weeks ago. Within 4 days I had a crack in it and I had done nothing gone nowhere and had it on the charger each night. I took it to the apple store and they sent it to apple. A week later I had my new watch. I have had my new watch for maybe three weeks now. I was downstairs looking at my watch changing some features. I got up and went upstairs and my iPhone started ringing so I went to answer it on my watch and realized the whole face was shattered! I mean *** is this??? I walked upstairs, touched nothing, didnt hit the watch on anything. Looking at it you would think that I had smashed it against a cement wall at least a dozen times. I love apple products, but I am really confused about this watch and its durability. I will again head back to the apple store...

I have an update for my brand new phase 2 Apple Watch. The one that basically exploded. I took it to the Apple Store and they said they had never seen anything like it. They said my battery had expanded which made thebfzce of the watch pop off and crack. How does a battery expand??? I do not understand this and how could I have caused this. Next they said they they were going to send it to the repair shop (Apple Watch graveyard) where I am sure many Apple watches live and die. Who sent me an email stating they needed to hear from me. I called them and they once again ask me how this happened. I told the man what I was doing or not doing at the time and he became very rude and said he didn't understand my language. I am like....what part of exploded on my wrist is hard to understand??? I told him i felt thst it was a safety issue so he promptly transferred me to the safety department. I spoke with a girl named autum who appeared to be helpful and concerned about my well being. I mean this is a bit reminiscent of the exploding Samsung .....yikes! Autum said she would send a message to the engineers who had a 4 hour turn around for a response. This was Friday so I did not hear anything until Monday April 24. I am not without my watch since Easter. The engineers basically said it was my fault and hey we're sending it back to me broken. Thanks Apple for your awesome product and your support and concern for my well being. Hello attorney general....I have a complaint my Apple Watch exploded on my wrist because the battery expanded and apple does not care!!!!

I had the opposite experience. I got in to online chat with an Apple rep and she offered me three options to get it fixed - Mail in, get Express Replacement (which I can do with Apple Care) or take it to an Apple Store to have it inspected. I'm taking it to the Apple Store. Yes, if they say it's accidental damage then I have to pay a service fee. But I'm all honesty if I did damage it then I'm responsible. If it's supposed to withstand certain impacts then Apple has to make good. It's all in where the responsibility lies. And no company will allow all claims. I'll just have to see how they evaluate it and what should be allowable.

Please tell me where Apple (the company) advertised that the watch was scratch proof, as you originally stated.

"says nothing about the quality of the device'??

I couldn't agree less with this statement. I have a number of watches at home some ive had for 5 years without a scratch on them. My apple watch is 6 months old and has 3 distinct scratches on the face. Seems like it is much more susceptible to scratching than one would expect from a wrist watch
