When you hide a photo, It does NOT show in the All Photos folder.

Are you really using Photos on a Mac? Not iPhoto?

The Photos Help says: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht56eafa987

Show or hide photos

You can hide selected photos and show them only when you want to see them. Hiding a photo can be useful if you don’t want to use it, but you’re not sure you want to delete it.

  • Hide photos: Select the photo or photos, choose Image > Hide [number] Photos, then click Hide Photos. The selected photos disappear from your moments, but are not deleted.
  • Show hidden photos: Click Albums in the toolbar, then choose View > Show Hidden Photo Album. The Hidden Photos album appears among your other albums. To unhide photos in it, select them, then choose Image > Show Photo.

As you can see, the documentation confirms, that photos will be hidden from the Moments. Nothing is said about albums.

When you hide a photo, you will again no mention of albums:

Hidden photos appear everywhere in Photos - in all standard albums and smart albums.

BTW, the User Guide for Photos iOS is more explicit: http://help.apple.com/ipad/9/#/iPad99c6ec9e

Hide photos or videos you want to keep but not show. While viewing thumbnails, tap Select, then select the photos or videos you want to hide. Tap Share, then tap Hide. The photos or videos are moved to the Hidden album.

Note: Photos or videos are hidden from Moments, Collections, and Years, but are still visible in Albums.

Actually hidden photos stay hidden under "All Photos" it is only in the "Videos" album where hidden videos don't stay hidden.

Hidden Photos are only hidden in the Library views (Moments, Collections, Years) - try it yourself.

For example: I have hidden all photos, and the Moments are showing this - a completely empty library.

But the "All Photos" album is showing all photos, as it should:

I understand that logic if I added it myself to an album, BUT the "Videos" album is an automatically generated album, which I can't do anything about it.

That is why I pointed out the similarity to the "All Photos" album. That is also automatically generated. All albums will show all applicable items. Hiding really only hides from the library items Collections, Moments, Years. It is not meant for keeping items secret; just to be able to thin out the library items Collections, Moments, Years, to get some items out of the way, without deleting them from the library.

That is a feature and not a bug, unfortunately.

Hiding items acts differently in Photos than previously in iPhoto.

Hiding an item will only hide it in Moments, Collections, Years. Hidden items will always be visible in any album.

Just like the "Videos" album is showing all videos, the "All Photos" album is showing all photos, including the hidden photos.

Probably Apple expects you to only add items to albums that you want to see.

Send feedback to Apple, that you would like this feature to be changed. Here is a feedback form:

Whoever is responding to this question is wrong. When you hide a photo, It does NOT show in the All Photos folder. It is only available in the "hidden album". However, when you hide a video in the All Photos album, it does not show in All Photos but it does show in the Videos Album as the question is referring to. Please address this because I haven't seen another person who understands this issue for some reason. It's very annoying when people argue the question without trying to answer it.

No you are incorrect - hiding a photo only hides it in Photos and it is still visible in all albums including smart albums, user albums and system albums - as noted in the TOU you should only post answers which you are familiar with and have personally tested

Posting totally incorrect information and in the same post attacking others you do check their information is way past annoying - it is a giant disservice to everyone and is a violation of the TOU
