BUG: Exercise app time not showing in Activity app

First thing in the morning, I did an "OPEN" session of "indoor cycling" for 39 minutes, and while both time and calories burned shows in the Exercise app, in the Activity app, my calories burned are counted under "Move", but under "Exercise" did not count the time, still showing 0.

Is anyone else seeing this, or was it a fluke for me?

It's not just you. I had the same problem the last two days. When I first got the watch, I had no problem quantifying my logged workout time with the exercise ring in the Activity App whether it was "indoor cycle" or "other." However the last two times I tracked "indoor cycle" on the Workout app, it has given me no credit. I kwpt checking my BPM, and it was at the level that the watch should be registering it as exercise WITHOUT logging it as a workout. I got done with 30 minutes at a tough pace and received 1 minute for the exercise ring,

I have the same problem, I am very disappointed. I mainly do exercise on an indoor bike and it can't record that on the activity app, my heart rate average is about 120 and I have tried with and without the workout app and it doesn't show up on the green ring. HR is being recorded as shown in the Health app.

I also move around all day and am only about half way through the move goal of 400 cals, it started off at 490 but I reduced it, what should it be, I only sit down for about 10 mins a day and only seem to burn about 200 calories! I spoke to Apple, they said they would look into it...

Please re-read my post, you are only credited with exercise if you either move your wrist enough or log an activity as 'Other'. So yes it's quite possible to get time recorded as an activity but not as exercise. I couldn't say how much your wrist needs to move but it doesn't credit small movements. My son is credited with a lot of exercise when he demonstrates giving CPR, which he does a lot on occasions.

Thank you very much for your reply. I think it is pretty poor that the only way to record exercise from an indoor cycle is to log it as other in the workout app, why does indoor cycle not work? it also should monitor exercise without having to use the workout app altogether, I thought this was the whole point of it.

I am still also not sure whether it is registering all my movements as I said I move all day and only burn about 200 calories according to the watch.

It also seems to be the second biggest drain on my iphone's battery, using 15% over 24 hours, only slightly less than the home screen which used 16%.

I verified that using "other" does record the indoor cycle session exercise as activity, but just because that is how it current works, does not mean that is how it SHOULD work. @jul22 I think this is a software bug, not a physical defect in the watch, so a replacement would exhibit the same results. Correcting this will take a software update.

The first Spin class I went to, it didn't record any exercise. I went to the Apple store, and they didn't know why. I didn't have my iPhone with me and bluetooth on in the spin class. So they told me go back and try it with the phone and bluetooth on. So I went to my next spin class. It recorded the entire class as exercise, but not my heart rate. Apparently, my heart rate was not being recorded for the past day. I powered my watch off and on, and the heart rate started to work again. So in class today, I got the watch on, got my phone, got the heart rate working and 50 minutes of class recorded as 18 minutes. This is very frustrating. I am just wondering now how can I trust anything on the activity app.

I was thinking it was because of the jumping on the bike. For 5 minutes we did 50 seconds down, 10 seconds up, and then 40/20, 30/30 etc. Another time, we did for a song get up to climb and back to seat repetitively 10-20 times, break and then again. and a few other exercises like that. So I am guessing, that the next spin class, I should just choose other?

Thank you for letting us know the work-arounds of swinging your arms and using "other" in Workout app. I think we are now giving examples of how it "should" work, and our discontent at how it does work. If the Workout app has an option for indoor stationary activities, then going to the effort of using those should count towards our "Exercise" goal in the Activity app, like it does when using "other".
