Logic: When recording audio, a loud electronic buzz happens

I am using Logic 9 on an iMac.

I use Logic to transfer records and create MP3s.

The record player is connected to my stereo receiver, the receiver to the input of an MAudio FW 410, the MAudio FW 410 to my external hard drive, and my hard drive to my computer (I connected the FW 410 to the hard drive because the FW410 does not have firewire 800, so I connect the FW410 to the hard drive then use the hard drive's FW 800 to connect to the computer)

This setup has always worked fine until recently.

When I transfer my records, Logic stops recording after a few minutes in, and a loud buzz is generated, and I can see the wave form of the buzz where I should be seeing the input of the audio from the record.

I then disconnected the record player to see what would happen and to eliminate the possibility that the record player was the cause of the problem. With the record player disconnected, I still got the buzz simply by arming the record button on the Logic track.

Then I tried transferring the record into GarageBand. The same buzz happened simply by arming the record button in GarageBand.

There seems to be something going on with my computer in regards to inputting sound. I'm not sure if it's a setting in Logic/GarageBand, or if there is some larger computer issues causing the buzz.

Any ideas?

Ideas?

First, what changed, you said this used to work fine until recently, have you upgraded OSX from the time it used to work fine?

Once the Buzz starts, you will probably have to reboot.

The last drivers (1.10.5) available for the FW410 are for OS 10.7.4 from mid 2012, If you've upgraded the operating system recently the problem is usually some kind of compatibility between OS and Audio Interface.

If I were you I'd look into getting a firewire 800 ---> 400 adapter and try the 410 directly into the computer.

Activity Monitor - My Processes

The other thing you can do is create a new user account and sign on with that.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------

Let me get this straight, you can record for a while before this happens?

What sample rate are you recording at, 44.1, 48, 88.2 or 96kHz 16 or 24-bit depth.

How do I turn off rewire? When I click in the box, there is no option for "off" The only options are Playback mode, and Live mode.

Here is the Etrecheck report:

My apologies.. I had forgotten that in LP9 there is no option to turn off rewire support there... There is in LPX but not LP9

Me too, and I'm on Logic 9, shows how long it's been since I looked at my preferences.

Please try the suggestions I posted... the 1000 samples in recording delay should not be set that way, you may have corrupted preferences files.

Apr 30, 2015 6:40 PM in response to rolesh79

1. You're tried creating a new user account sign on to the new account and record from that?

2. And you haven't installed -any- other audio related software....... and set Logic's recording delay to 0 (Zero) samples

3. Uncheck Software Monitoring.

The last thing to try is deleting Logic's preferences.

With Logic not running.

Delete the Logic preferences file AND control surfaces file. (they will be rebuilt next time Logic starts)

In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu. note: type exactly as --> ~/Library/Preferences
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic.pro.plist file from the Preferences folder.

Then delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
