how to pair external heart rate monitor to apple watch

hello, i have a polar blue tooth H 7 heart rate monitor, and i have read that people are syncing them to the apple watch as its a little faster to

get your heart rate this way on a run, for instance, and it also cuts down on the battery drain of the watch when exercising.

i can not figure out how to pair it.. before the watch came, i would sync it using the digifit app on my iphone. i tried this, but the watch was

still doing its own heart rate thing, so syncing the old way to my iphone seemed to not override the built in heart rate monitor on the watch.

so... how do you pair it to the watch? many thanks!

I have the same question. It seems that simply pairing in the Bluetooth settings area isn't enough to get H7 data in the workout app. The workout app is still lighting the green LED's and is reading from the watch, not the H7. I tested this by putting the H7 on a different person and had them jump rope while showing the heartrate in the workout app. It stayed at 68bpm, obviously not the jump-roper.

The apple 'workout walk through' video on apple.com mentions at the very end that you can use another health device like a heart rate monitor, then shows how to pair it, but the video ends there.

How do we direct H7 data to the workout app?
