2015 12" MacBook Slow?

Not sure if this is because I used migration assistant from my old computer or not but it seems that I end up getting a lot of hiccups when scrolling screens (esp MS word for some reason)

I'm coming from a 2013 Mac book Air connected to a 28" Dell monitor via display link adapter. Haven't been able to see this work in that scenario yet because the adapters have not yet shipped, but the computer seems to choke just on its internal display alone.. (nature of the hiccups makes me think it is a display horsepower problem )

Anyone else notice this?

FWIW: I've used an 11" MB Air since the day it came out and have never noticed a sluggish issue.

Hi....!!

The new macbook’s 1.1 GHz Core M processor and the mediocre intel 5300 HD GPU is not capable in rendering those millions of retina display pixel smoothly, resulting in lag and sluggish performance.

You should have bought the macbook pro for the same price if you wanted the professional level performance and if you wanted to connect it to either the thunderbolt display or 4K LED display at 60 Hz.

The new macbook is capable of connecting to a non - thunderbolt display at only max 30 Hz. Not that great.

Hope this helps......

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.

If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

So i have the 512 /w 1.2~2.6Ghz core-m processor and i have been very impressed with the performance.

I'm a developer, and have had eclipse running, JBoss server started, and even a VM instance of Linux (CentOS 7 /w GNOME on) at the same time and experienced no issues.

If none of that makes sense 🙂, i also installed Diablo III and it runs fine, @ 1440p, with low setting.

However, the latest macbook air's will have more processing power, but this notion the 12" macbook is just an ipad /w keyboard is complete bogus.

@grane, I understand not having "professional" level performance.. It is more perplexing that the thing doesnt even perform as well as it's sister computer (base 11" Air) which is nearly 3 years old.

@John, yah that makes me wonder if this was due more to me migrating my old computer. It doesn't seem to be a core CPU problem, but more of a display refresh... (but your Diablo @ 1440 seems to question that.)

Hummm I guess I still have a few days to decide if I should return or not, may be worth a wipe clean..

i have the new macbook 2015 base model. scrolling in browser has become a joke. maybe i didnt notice it at first because i was so happy with the form factor, or maybe its just gotten somehow slower in the first month. but scrolling in browsers, and even in evernote and messages, is a total joke. the reason it finally dawned on me is becuase i used my moms old MBA 13 and it just feels so overpowered in scrolling responsiveness compared to the new MB. what gives.

It's likely the Websites you're visiting and/or your browser. If you're using Safari, stop, and download Chrome or Firefox =) Safari is like the IE of Winders.

Otherwise you may have a lemon... and i'd give Apple a call. The new 12" MacBook is not slow, especially on basic things like scrolling on some website. Its also not slow for more intensive tasks such as gaming seeing here, @ full retina 1440p!

i would do a clean install and just restore the your data and no preferences or apps. just reinstall any apps. don't listen to the other people posting who are saying its in-capable of performing for day to day tasks. we hit peak CPU for basic task's like web browsing , some programming ( use pycharm and run docker containers ) and non -video editing( i have heard non-4k editing works fine) type task's years ago.

mine runs great with no lag or delays at all, even run virtual machines . is it for everybody ? of course not . i have been surprised at the performance and i use a '12 decked out Pro for work and i would rather use my Macbook any day. It makes my Pro feel old

and as a side note , i normally use chrome but safari blows any other browser away lately on both power consumption and speed. just research the benchmarks. especially on the power consumption side.

The biggest problem with SAFARI has existed since Snow Leopard - no way to turn off top sites -- which refresh when the page changes or when you clear out web data. Safari worked find when the refresh was not working -- response slowed when it was fixed.

Another option in browsers is Opera --

It's Beautiful! Bought a custom 1.3GHz, 256G MacBook. But had to return it.

Wonderful Mac, but I have an 11" MB Air with an i7.

The new MB stuttered when playing videos; slow frame rate, and audio and video not in sync. Decided to stay with my 2-year old MB Air with i7 processor. No video stutter, and video and audio are in sync. Did a side-by-side test. if I didn't have the 11" MB Air, the new MB would be great. Retina display, light weight, long battery life are all good.

I will wait for a few more product cycles of the 12" MacBook.

It's a superb machine for people who do not already have an 11" MB Air and want a compact, light weight MAC with a Retina Display and long battery life.

Wish I knew I could return it, new macbook pro 15" was a present. Right away had to reset P ram . Web sites won't load, freeze all the time, disk utility no help and I'm one week out of return date. Ready to toss it out the window. I've had MacPro(4) for 15 yrs and never had this trouble. Other than watch movies its pretty useless. Trying to get APPLE to take it back. Oh it also changes web sites while on a web site and sometimes new site is in Spanish. Ah Steve your company is producing trash now.
