Delayed notifications on Watch

When I receive a text, iMessage, or email (built in apps), I noticed that my watch doesn't tap me until 30-45 seconds after my phone vibrates. Since I am always wearing the watch, I prefer that my watch taps me first. This is how it functioned on day 1. However, during days 2 and 3, I've noticed that my phone gets the notification first.

I've also noticed that this does not hold true with my 3rd party app notifications (ESPN, CNN). With these apps, I receive the notification on my watch first (which is the way it is intended to be).

Is anyone else having this issue? Has anyone discovered a quick fix? Is it a glitch? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

Has anyone found a way to fix this, because after the first day, my watch is always delayed for messages. My phone is always vibrating and making my message sounds, and then about 10 seconds my watch gets the notification. This is kind of annoying, because now I have two devices making noise instead of just one, and this isn't suppose to be happening according to the online user guide.

i had the same problem so i contacted support and the said to unpair the pair again with iphone. now it does do a backup to ur phone so when you pair agin press restore from backup and everything is exactly the same it just takes about 5 mins to sync. i did this and my notifications delay was fixed! now i gete them at the same time and when my phone is locked it goes to the watch! this might not work if ur watch is locked with a passcode you will need to take this off. hope i help!

I fixed the issue in a slightly different way.

On my phone, under notifications, I turned off all notifications for my messages (settings\notifications\messages).

I then locked my phone and got some one to text me. It went straight to my watch. I then went back to my phone and reversed the notification settings that I changed above.

That seems to have fixed it for me.

I had the exact same problem. Delay seemed to be about 30-45 seconds after the text was received on my iPhone and iMac. Notifications were working correctly at first (and for several weeks), but within the last week problem set in and persisted indefinitely.

Unpair > Re-Pair > Restore from Backup fixed the issue. Notifications are now consistently tapping me on the wrist as soon as they come in like I'm used to. Thanks for the tip Ethan!

I Had the same issue and after 3 trips to the genius bar i tried troubleshooting the issue myself. At first I thought that an app was causing the delay then I finally figured out it had to do with the number of contacts I had on my phone. Between my different accounts I had 600 + contacts and it would take 5 to 6 rings before it would show on my watch. I reduced the number to 400 hundred and then it would show up after 2 to 3 rings. Finally one I got below 300 contacts I experienced little to no delay.

It also sped up how quick I received message notifications.

I hope that helps!

I have been having this issue, too. What I tried just now—and so far it seems to have worked, we'll see if it does—is to put the iPhone into Airplane Mode. Depending on the Watch settings, it should go into that mode too. Now turn off airplane mode on iPhone, then on Watch (once it's in Airplane mode, you have to turn it off from the Watch). My text notifications started coming to the Watch again.
