I updated my computer to OS X Yosemite and Iphoto doesn't work anymore. I have a lot more details to share etc.

I updated my computer to OS X Yosemite and Iphoto is not compatible with the new operating system. Which means I have lost photos from the last three years of my life which include me getting married to my wife. If its meant to be friendly to consumers, this is too big of a mistake made by apple. I did back up my computer for those of you who would point blame, and I have paid and used sources such as Icloud. Yet Icloud was updated to fit the new operating system and a new application now known as "Photos". So when I log into Icloud it no longer shows Iphotos. So the back up system provided by Apple has failed. If you have a solution to this problem please let me know. No one has time for this etc.

I open finder and see application Iphoto.

I then open package contents.

Then I try holding down the "Command" key and the "Option" key both together and separately in launching inside the package contents for Iphoto.

This option (OPTION 1 of 3) was the "Command" + "Option" key while launching this application.

I then copy the applications contents to my desktop just in case to (Backup) and I chose to rebuild database.

After I try to rebuild the Database it looks like it is working.. then

It tells me that the application quit unexpectedly. (And when does apple actually read what the problem is I wrote down)

So since that option did work I tried (Option 2 of 3)

I found the application in the finder, then right clicked, opening its package contents, then launching the program (like above). I held down the "option" key and etc.

So I create a new library (this is the third try)

Then it looks like it works for a second. but

And then same message from (Option 1 of 3)

So the last option is to open it normally. And this is what it says etc. To update Iphoto etc.

So I click "Search App Store" and then it says etc. "The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store."

So I have ran out of options. From what has been suggested thus far on this problem. I did back up (I thought through I cloud), I tried those options and still have not gotten back some of the pictures. I will dig through more of my back up files. I hope this can help solve this problem these details for me etc.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

I think I got Iphoto running after creating another library by opening it up in finders pictures etc. And I dragged the old contents into the program... its uploading all of the photos that are icons from programs from Iphoto itself. Its still not done... I am hoping my photos are hidden somewhere inside the package contents of Iphoto.

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
