Workout calories expended accuracy

Hi,


After a few workouts with my trainer, it appears the Watch's calculation of calories expended is off by a factor of 2. I have verified my personal data entry (age, weight, height, sex entries as being correct. During a recent spin workout, my heart rate was appropriately elevated, yet the reported calories were 296. My trainer estimated it should have been more like 600-700, based on the amount of work I was doing. Similar spin participants reported calorie counts in the higher range with other measurement devices (Fitbit, Polar, etc.)


Anyone else seeing this kind of issue?

do u really think that 35 min of spinning burns 700 calories?? There is no way you burn more then 300 calories doing a low intense short workout like that.

the watch is way off and therefor completely useless, but the error is that the resting and total calories count is way too high.

cant believe that apple released a product like this. telling people that they burn 4000 cals per day w only a light workout

is dangerous and irresponsable. Very disappointing.

Yes it's not just possible to burn way more then 300 c, but it is probable. The spin classes of today is not like the spin classes you're probably referring to. Th spin classes I take are intense...very intense workouts.....Low intensity workout? That's a joke. The instructors that lead the classes that are non stop cardio with resistance wear heart monitors, and are tracking over 600 Calories per workout. My Husband burns close to 1000. and when i look at my apple watch and it reads 300, there is something that is very wrong. My Spin classes at a place called SoulCycle in NYC is nothing like a "lite workout" I hope Apple can fix this issue considering they touted this watch as a fitness watch.

It really depends on age. I have taken spin classes for years and burn (using Digifit and Polar HRM) between 350 and 500 calories. The younger womans heart rates go higher (under 40) and therefore they can burn up to 600 calories. My bike at Equinox says I burn between 700 and 800 calories but the heart rate monitor is the real deal-woman just cannot burn that much in a class. Apple watch, on the other hand , gives me around 200 active calories. I agree it is very frustrating. So I use Myfitnesspal and Digifit with my polar heart rate monitor and ignore the apple watch for all but the step counter.


It is not ideal but hopefully apple will update its software in the fall.
