Apple watch and Bluetooth connection is awful during my runs. Anyone else having the same issues?

my Bluetooth connection to my Apple watch is awful during my runs. It keeps cutting in and out. Anyone else having the same frustrating issues? I'm not carrying my phone during the runs and I'm connecting through the watch for my music.

Hi, I am also having the same trouble with Bluetooth wireless connection during my runs.. I have tried three different wireless headphones, ranging from Beats cans down to cheap and cheerful on ear buds, all of which connect without problem, music begins to play, then they lose the connection to Bluetooth a song or two into the run, I have tried all the fixes suggested, reset, rebooted, erased and started from scratch, still the same issue.. I have synced a playlist from my phone to play on the watch and that is what I use as my phone is in my locker when I am running.

So far, it appears I own a very expensive heart rate monitor and a very pretty timepiece, however, I am yet to be convinced by its other features.

I can only hope Apple work out a fix very soon, my main use for the watch is for music at the gym and for looking cool, an on/off Bluetooth connection is not only useless, it's incredibly annoying.

HEY GUYS! so as I continued to have issues with my Watch, I took it in to Apple and they saw the issue and actually swapped it out on the spot. I was for sure that I was going to have to mail it off and be without it for a while. I was super fortunate in that regard! so with the new watch I had the same issue with the exception it disconnected after 30 minutes into my run instead of the usual 3 minutes. I found that if you are in range of your phone that the watch is continuously searching for the phones connectivity. so what I did was before my next workout I turned Bluetooth off on my phone and the watch worked seamlessly!!! made it through the entire 1 1/2 hour workout!!! try it and see if that helps you!!! GOOD LUCK GUYS!! if it does work please share here so that we can keep each other informed!!

Hi bigdaddy73,

If you are having issues with your Apple Watch Bluetooth not functioning as expected, you may want to try some basic troubleshooting steps. These can all be found in the Apple Watch's manual, available here -

https://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1708/en_US/apple_watch_user_guide. pdf

First, restart the Apple Watch and test again - see page 89 -

Restart Apple Watch. To turn off Apple Watch, press and hold the side button until the sliders appear, then drag the Power Off slider to the right. To turn Apple Watch back on, hold down the side button until the Apple logo appears.

Next, I would try resetting the Apple Watch's settings - also on page 89 -

Reset Apple Watch settings. On Apple Watch, open the Settings app from the Home screen, go to General > Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings.

After the reset finishes and Apple Watch restarts, you need to pair Apple Watch with iPhone again—open the Apple Watch app on iPhone, then follow the instructions shown on iPhone and Apple Watch.

If the issue is still present you may want to restore the Apple Watch. Note that this erases all contents and settings. See page 91 -

Erase contents on Apple Watch. On Apple Watch, open the Settings app from the Home screen, go to General > Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I'm also having the same issue during my workouts. The watch / Bluetooth - Beats Wireless Headphones connection works for about 15-20 min & then begins to cut out continuously & is unusable for remainder of the gym time. Seems to coincide with sweating during the workout. Froze up on me the other day as well. l called AppleCare & have done all the three R's and it seems like it's a software issue Apple would need to fix/update. It's very frustrating as this was one of the main features/benefits of I liked about the watch. Put my iPhone6 back in my shorts pocket this AM in order to get music non-stop through out the workout.....Apple.... PLEASE FIX!!

Hello I had the same issue, turning the bluetooth from your phone is useless, your watch won't sync with it so leave your iPhone at home! The only way I've found so far is to change my watch from my left wrist to my right one, since the antenna of the headset seems to be on the right.

The watch seems to have low bluetooth range compared to the phone.

I tried that many times and it solved my issue.

Apple watch and Bluetooth connection is awful during my runs. Anyone else having the same issues?
